Deep Sh%t ????

I was taking off my gauge cluster cover and my headlight **** pulled right out. I tried putting it back in and heard a snapping noise. I then took the cover off and looked inside. The light controller is dangling. I ginnyrigged this crap so that i can drive at night but i have no clue how to fix this. It looks like i will have to take my whole dash to get inside of this. I wanted to know if chevy dealers do repairs. If they do, do you think they will do a repair of this sort?

Oh, I think they'll repair anything if you throw enough money at them. And there lies the problem. Money.

Do you have a repair manual that might help you out?

Just take the old one out to replace it. I bought one a while back at auto zone and it was like 15 bucks i think. To get it out you have to take your gauge cluster out and you should be able to get to it quite easily

There is a long rod attached to the ****. When that pulled out, i tried putting it back in and then i heard that snap. The snap was the device the **** goes into deeper in the dash.

Del91_305 thanks but how do i get the gauge cluster out. i think im going to get a repair manual soon. Are you talking about the light dimmer device or the **** that you bought at autozone. Im dumb so sumthing as simple as this, im stressing over.

305q_ta86 Thanks, is that true, i didnt know they would do repairs on my car cause its kinda old. No repair manual yet.

Grab a Chiltons manual from Autozone or Barnes & Noble or online somewhere. Or if you have extra cash, pick up a Helm service manual for your year vehicle, also found on ebay or www.helminc.com

It sounds like the threaded piece that holds the light switch into the dash is what broke. Congratulations. I think my transmission swap was easier than trying to replace that POS. You can reach in with needle nose pliers and remove the broken part. Get under your dash, and pull down the fuse box. You should be able to reach up there and pull the light switch down. It's been a while so I don't remember if the piece threads into the dash and the light switch pushes into that, or if the piece threads into the switch and the whole thing pushes into the dash. Either way, it's not hard to figure out when you're looking at it. The hard part is reaching up there and getting it reinstalled. You can see what has to be done, it's just tough to reach the spot.

A much easier way, although far more time consuming, is to unbolt the dash and pull it forward for access.

unless you have little girly fingers and hands its going to be difficult there just isnt any room around that switch to get to it ......i think GM built the car around that piece

Anyone knows where to order this part from
This is from behind the Light and ciggerate lighter cover. It is where the Rod connects to the dash

It screws into the dash. As you could see, it snapped

I think the HELP section in the autoparts stores have that.Try them FIRST before the dealer...

I just bought a new one of those the other day. They strip out very very easy! I got mine from the GM dealer and it was like 6 bucks. I also got the AC delco swith from them to and it was like $35. The install sort of sucks...the hardest part is taking off the speedo cable from the cluster...for me anyway...

Yeah screw dealers....

...I called around to our local GM dealer to see the price of the base 350HO.

local GM dealer: 3900
Summit Racing: 2300

hmmm?

I coulda bought and had shipped the deluxe 350HO from summit in less than 2 days, or bought the base HO from the dealer, wait two weeks, and had to go pick it up

If I'm not looking for a new car I won't go to a dealer.

The **** is from RadioShack, and the two switches below it control the parking lights and the headlights. I like it a million times better than that stupid pull-out **** dealie. I'll post the wiring later, its written on a paper thats floating around somewhere in my car...
