Passenger door is hitting the ground effects when closing, can it be adjusted?

Well, I just took the car down off of jackstands last night to see what she looks like with the 92 style gfx on. Car sits pretty high even with the V8 in there, but I'm not worried about that(Pro kit will be going in). Anyway, I went to open the passenger side door, and it felt like it was stuck. So I pulled it a little harder, and it came free. It won't close either unless you really slam it. The bottom edge of the door is rubbing on the top of the rocker panel gfx, and the bottom corner of the door is hitting against the rocker panel where the two meet. I tried to adjust the door latch and nothing. It's weird cause I know that worn out door hinges can do this, but my hinges are not worn out, or at least not to my knowledge. With the door open, if I pick up on the door, the whole car raises. There is no slop in there. Anyone run into this before? I don't want to tear up my newly installed gfx, or worse yet, have scratches in them when I get the car painted. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul Moore

Seems kinda funny you didn't notice it hitting the actual rocker itself before...and if it's not loose when you lift the rear...
How's the body lines and door gaps match up?
If you just installed them...did it have effects before? I would wonder if you put all the bracketry in the correct spot if no.
But then, we return to that door hitting the rocker...
Definitely check those gaps and get back to us.

Well, the car has been hit in the front end before, the passenger front that is. When I bought the car 5 years ago, it already had the RS style ground effects on it (85-90 style) and it did not hit the door or interfere in any way. The passenger door has a larger gap that the driver's door, but that gap is only bigger at the rear of the door where it meets with the sail panel/b pillar area.

That's kinda goofy, if anything, the gap should be tighter at the top of the door, if it's hitting at the bottom...
Do me a favor, take the striker out of the jamb and close the door slowly, hold it tight to the body and look at the gaps. not only the front and rear, but the bottom, also note how well the characteristic line in the middle of the body matches up with the one on the quarter...

Well, I don't have a big enough of a torx bit here to take out the striker. The striker is the post type thing that has round washers behind it that attaches to the body, right? I have the smaller torx bit to take the three torxes out for the lock assembly on the door. Anyway, I closed the door and looked at it again. When closed, the door is lined up with the side body muldings on both front and rear fenders. However, the gap between the door and body is ok, but the top of the door near the glass sticks out by about 1/4 inch.

Also, when the car didn't have the gorund effets on it, the door closed very good.

Did you put the ground efects on with the car jacked up? I know that sounds silly but these cars do chage shape a little when they are on the ground compared to jacked up

Yes, I did, actually. I think that what i am going to try is to reposition the rocker with the car on the ground and see if that will help it. When I put the gfx on, and the front of the car was up in the air, the door would close and open just fine. As soon as I set her back down though, she changed her story altogether.

Well, I took the rocker panel off ust now, and tried to close the door. It closes fine. There is only a slight bit of upward movement when the door engages the striker assembly, so maybe the hinges are starting to get worn. Anyway, I elongated the holes for the rocker panel(where it bolts to the body. I also loosened all the 7mm bolts underneath that screw into the car and took out the phillips head screws that hold the top of the rocker. Then I slid the whole thing back about 1/4 inch so the rocker sat flush witht the line of the door. Reassembled it, and now it closes just fine. I think that I still might get the hinges replaced anyway jut in case. I don't want to spend alot of $$ on a high quality paint job, and after the first day have scratches in the rockers. Thanks for all your help guys!
