The slides might be broken, or the gear might be busted. Run a search, this has been discussed before.

Hawks sells the parts you need to rebuild the motor.

Does anyone know if there is any way that i can get it to go down? It sounds like the motor is not even trying to pull the hatch down. is there any way to disable the motor but close the hatch all the way at the same time?

the motor doesnt make any sounds when you pop it/shut it? sounds to me like its just dead... look into buying a new motor assembly from hawks, top down solutions, or even ebay/junkyard. thats the best advice i can give you

ditto
Mine had the same problem so I disconected the motor and loosened the bolts that hold the whole thing and lowered the unit down and retightened it lower so when I close the hatch the unit was allready in the down position and would lock down perfectly.
Its like having a regular trunck latch that does not grab and lower it just grabs in a set position. You will have to play with positions to find the right height.

Early to mid 90's I believe, Im not sure on the exact year, I'll have to ask my dad what year his Caddy was that had that option.

will it turn after a good wiggling, or does it just simply refuse? if its the second case, maybe you need to take it to a locksmith...

Also - check the grounds on the motor, and disconnect the motor's power connector and clean the contacts real good. I was having the same intermittent problem and this appears to have been my solution.
