Sure some high priced stuff and that's near cost I'm guessing. Add in their big $$ shipping and ouch. I need the outer sweeps and about due for the upper rail stripping, have to wait.

 

Try Jegs or Summit. They both carry Soffseal. 69.99 for both door seals and 57.99 for both roof rails for Hardtops. I just ordered some hope the quality is up to snuff.

*note: After reading some other posts I now realize nobody cares for the a-market strips so sorry please disregard post. Still gonna try it myself though. I'll probably hate it...

 

I think the Soffseal stuff is the better aftermarket one...I'd like to know too because they're pretty cheap on ebay.

 

i used metro on my GN- alot of guys on the buick board said stay away from them they dont fit blah blah blah- i love them it was 50$ for a pair i cleaned the doors down used some 3M adhesive- they done leak water or air now while sitting or driving- im happy

Personally speaking as they are still on my 'bird currently... they suck.
-They are considerably harder than OEM (thus.. not Soff)
-They are to long
-The end blocks are just big chunks of rubber molded around nothing and where you put the screws to hold the blocks on.. just have washers (read... cheapass ¼" washers) poked into them that tear out as soon as you tighten the screws down.
-1 year later.. they still aren't Soff and you have to slam the f--- out of the door to get it to close all the way.

Stay FAR away from anything JCWhitney sells.

GM.. pricey but.. you only have to buy it once and you know it lasted this long so, if new, yuou'll get anohter 12-22 years out of it.

Had I not bought aftermarket seals (not all same brand or place either) for the hatch, outer sweeps and doors... only to chuck them in the s--tcan (or soon to go there w/the door seals) and buy them a 2nd time OEM... I wouldn't say jack about aftermarket w/strip.

Buying aftermarket, IMO, it the 'spend a dollar to save a dime' theory.

Buy OEM before it's gone is all I can tell you. GM is done with making it for the most part....

All just my opinion though..

 

Well sh*t, I cant buy the GM stuff anytime soon just no funds left in the body budget for it. The car's mostly a race car though so maybe it wont bug me too much cuz I don't drive it everyday and it doesn't sit outside. I did get gm glass seals or sweeps.

If this is the case... you probably won't even care.

I wasn't trying to shoot you down for buying the seals.. just using your quote for a phrase.

A note though since you've already boarded the ship.. use the large washer 7mm hex (trim) srews to anchor the block molding to the door... this will help hold the block and washer in place better. 3M black or contact adhesive (doesn't have to be brand specific but, similar product) is also needed to install the strip.
I'd suggest the tube contact adhsive if you dont have an hour or so to **** away waiting to adhear a 6" strip of w/strip to the door.

Again.. opinion from me based on less than expected results from a well reputable w'seal company....

 

I have used Soff Seal, Metro, GM and Steele Rubber Products. They were not all on 3rd gen f-bodies but that shouldn't matter because if it is made for a particular application, it should fit perfectly. The worst was Soff Seal. It never got soft and I had to slam the door to get it to close. Very annoying. Steeles wasn't bad but at the time was very pricey. It was only a few dollars less than NOS but I needed it overnight and no other place could get to em quick enough. The fit was excellent but it too was hard and didn't soften up after 2 years. Metro and GM worked the best for me. I have GM on my 3rd gen and it was hard at first but started to soften within about 3 months. I tried to park the car as often as I could on hot days. It obviously fit perfectly. The doors are still tough to close but not so much so that it's a problem. The Metro stuff is my favorite. I used it on an older f-body(2nd gen) and it looked, felt and fit perfectly. There was a very slight variance when compared to the original stuff that was on the car but not enough to lose points at a car show if thats what you are after. It was soft and formed within 2 weeks also and continues to seal well and look new to this day. The car has been in storage for 4 years but came out about a year ago and the weatherstripping was still holding up as if it were just installed. The weatherstripping was installed 6 years ago on that particular car. 1aauto has the stuff cheapest from what I can remember. I believe I got a better deal from Jason Cromer on the GM stuff as his shipping was cheaper than GMpartsdirect. I've seen people at car shows wipe baby oil on weatherstripping. That may have been only for appearance but you never know....it may help them last as well.

Jason Cromer is a parts guy that works for Sam Taylor Buick/Cadi. He sells OEM GM parts at a discount similar to Gmpartsdirect.com but shipping tends to be a little less for some things. His number is 1-877-726-8295. He's a fellow 3rd gen guy as well and it's much easier to have your part numbers ahead of time for him but not necessary. Do a search on here for him and I'm sure you'll see he's a good guy to do business with.

So I guess I had it backwards...the Soffseal stuff is the worst one out. Good to know. I was going to buy some weathertstripping soon and I had enough for at least part of the GM stuff, but I just crashed my friends car a couple days ago, so there goes that idea.
