ok im doing the 4th gen dash swap, and have a few questions

ok i have searched and searched and searched... and this is what i have been able to come up with. first off the dash is going into my 91 formula... tbi

so what i have gathered is that, i want the 98+ bird/ta dash (i want ebony...)

i want the lt1 (93-97) hvac controls since hte ls1 controls are all vacum operated ???

i need a 93-97 guage cluster because they are analog and the ls1 guages will not work ? i have also seen that the camaro and bird clusters are interchangeable in 93-97 ???

now as far as the wiring goes... i have found a wiring schematic for the hvac controls but i have no been able to find the wiring for a lt1 bird/ta cluster ? is it the same wiring, and colors as the camaro cluster... that would make life easier because the information is all located in tpiroc's thread... and where am i going to be able to find a scheatic for the wiring in my car ? 91 formula tbi... i have a haynes manual but it doesnt have very useful wiring guides.

now other than the guages and hvac what else is there to wire ? and can the rest of hte stock 91 wiring be left alone and put back up into the dash ?

i understand that the lt1 speedo and tach uses the same signal as the 90-92 tbi cars is this tru ?

that is all for now... i am just trying to get this all straightened out before i go at this... and wanted to make sure i was going to have all the right parts as well.

There are some people who have used the LS1 cluster and everything works but the tach, (need to buy Dakota box for it, like $90) plus the gas guage wont work, can get around this by installing your old guage and messing with the board or something like that info here http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/023174.html or you could just install an Auto meter gas guage in one of the vents. This is all, if oyu wanted to use an LS1 cluster just letting you know it can be used. But I went with the Lt1 for now. I do have an LS1 cluster but I think its messed up.

now as far as the wiring goes... i have found a wiring schematic for the hvac controls but i have no been able to find the wiring for a lt1 bird/ta cluster ? is it the same wiring, and colors as the camaro cluster... that would make life easier because the information is all located in tpiroc's thread... and where am i going to be able to find a scheatic for the wiring in my car ? 91 formula tbi... i have a haynes manual but it doesnt have very useful wiring guides.
Heres the wiring for the '95t/a cluster I used.

If you are useing the 4thgen headlight dimmer trunk, fog switches etc.. you need that wiring to. do a search for my user name and I have posted all the wiring for the 4thgen dash in various posts.

i understand that the lt1 speedo and tach uses the same signal as the 90-92 tbi cars is this tru ?
Supposedly.... But my tach bounces around a little (still accurate though) as does many others who have used the LT1 tachs. I think I remember a recent post about there maybe a tach filter on the 4thgen lt1's. Search for that I can't seem to find it right now.

as for the clusters... 97 camaro cluster or 93-97 firebird clusters are interchangable and work the best... the 98 + camaro and bird clusters are also interchangeable but are ls1 and harder to get working right unless you buy more parts or modify them...

speedo will work if you are using the 93-97 clusters as it needs a 4000 ppm signal and that is what you have there already.... the tach i have heard that some have had it bounce.. i havnt had that prob that i have noticed yet....

bird and camaro wireing for lt1 cluster is the same as far as i have seen so far.... for your hvac and lights ... all the wiring is on here... just search for 4th gen hvac and such.. i dont remember exactly all the posts... but you will find them with no problem i have done the swap and many others have.. if you run into specific problems just ask and we will be glad to help

id hook it up without the box 1st and see what it does. cant hurt. only 1 wire, beats hooking up the dak digital box.

i agree with not hooking up the box first.. you may not need it.. not sure why but it seems some have the problem with bouncing and some dont.

not to flame, but do a search for ls1 dash or 4th gen dash and you will see TONS of great information.

kick panel and a pillar gives it away its a 3rd gen,.... he has also grafted in a COMPLETE LS1 unit..... suspension..... even the firewall from a 4th gen.
notice the wiper cowl, windshield and fender mounts.... onlything 3rd gen left.
