Smoothed Custom console***DONE PICS***
*******PICS TOWARDS BOTTOM*********
Wanted to give you guys an update on the work on my console i originally planned to delete the ashtray, mount the switches in the glove box and get rid of the b+m rubber boot for a handmade leather one, teh console from the glovebox up through the radio pod was going to be all smooth aluminum i was going to use the lokar shift indicator in the dash and get rid of the b+m's also. Was gonna make it brushed aluminum or gloss black, flush mount my headunit and a/c controls.......
However she is fighting the hell out of me, got it out of the car cut out the solid piece where the switches are mounted stock, instead of using like a foam board as my template for teh metal i used thin posterboard. Needless to say i got the 16 guage cut out and bent to fit and it didnt fit gaps to big some places it was bad....What'll **** me off is i am certified welder and fabricator so this real cranked me up, came close to getting a stock top end and just putting it back.....
Nope plans changed i'm chaniging the side carpet to black opposed to stock grey to contrast my grey seats, getting a hunk of the leather used on my seats grey and am going to make another metal piece and wrap it in the leather on top to give it that custom street rod smooth look, shift boot will be black, leather to contrast the grey and chrome of the b+m, window switches i will mount different than stock but somewhere between the shifter and glove box to break up the grey area, maybe mount em at angles like pointing at the shifter?
Figured i'd update everyone seeing as how i get the seats back tomorrow and i had said the console would be doen and back in today

Made good progress, have a new piece made and fit and screwed in ot the factory locations, cutting out the shifter, radio, a/c and window switch holes tomorrow. Still have to figure out a way to support it in the back of the cut out so i'm hoping to have it covered in the vinyl by saturday night. Got real nice grey vinyl from the place that did my seats(got those back today) So it'll match my seats then i have to get the black carpet on the sides of the console and sew up my black shiftboot. Probaly end up making a grey boot for my e brake while i'm at it.
Taking some time but hopefully i will have everything back and installed in the car sometime mid next week

That sounds great, post pics as soon as you can. Right when I saw "then cover it with something" I thought, "why not use vinyl. Wait, that's a good idea, I want to do that." I just want to see how it looks and if it fits in with everything, if it does, I'll start it tomorrow. I'm in the middle of tearing everythign down and making it nicer and better, so my console is really easy to work on.

I just started covering my console in vinyl yesterday night, and it's coming out great. Not exactly a smoothed console, but it should be a nice change from the stock console. It's better than the 4th gen console because it's still stock and doesn't look out of place, just really nice. I'll post pictures Monday probably.

Sweet, mine isnt super exactly like i had in my mind but it looks good and is different, think when i redo it next fall with the dash mount lokar indicator i'll pad it a tad for more of a soft look. GOt all the material on last night running to the hardware store in the morning to pick up a few nut plates and torx screws to mount the top part, should have it halfway installed tomorrow before i gotta work then the seats and all should be ready to go in so expect pics tuesday night or wed. morning..
