Ya but then u would have a big slot there for nothing. Now if u had some sort of custom dash then i would say go for it.

no one likes to see an emergency brake located huh? figured there would be more comments, o'well. makes for a very clean custom console.

I'd comment a little more if I could make out what in the world that is exactly. I can see the ebrake handle, and carpet. But where's it at? Let's see a larger pic candy- stop just trying to tease us!

I wish the e-brake in our cars was located next to the drivers side kick panel like the one in my 82 chevy diesal work truck.

Is that under/near the front right bottom of the driver seat? If so, nice. I like that. Where ever it is, looks good and hidden. Pictures from farther away?

It almost looks like Kandy has it in the hatch area?

i really have no problem with my e-brake where it is... i kinda like being able to reach for it when i really need it instead of having to locate in case of an emergency... but... what is that a picture of?

well if you were in an emergency- you wouldnt be using the parking brake, because thats all its good for. that looks awsome- i dont see the need for the parking brake in the console. id like to try and make it like a newer GM style where its down by the dead pedal- and you push to activate- then push to release.

and f355bird- we are talking to kandy here- do you really think he would leave a big slot there if he relocated it?
but yeah kandy i think that looks awsome- go for it- the parking brake looks dumb when in the console IMO

c'mon jeff, show us a view with more. The pain I am going through waiting to see what you are doing with this car. I bet it will top the last.

I cannot wait to see the finished thing, and I know it will be gorgeous

I completely disagree. Before I finished swapping auto>man I have only put the manual pedals in my car (it's my daily driver). I had bent the E-clip that holds the brake pedal>Master cylinder rod on the pedal. That little clip snapped while I was sitting at a light going to work and my car started rolling forward (because it was still in gear) towards the car infront of me and instinctively I pulled the e-brake as hard and fast as I could so I didn't drive into the car in front of me. It helped me, so I'll always want one in my car. (it'd be diff if I had had a manual trans though)

I have personally looked into electronic e-brakes. That way the ebrake could be a small button instead of a lever. Some of the new high-end cars have such a device. I think that would clean it up more than anything.

Its not like we need an e-brake to drift our cars

Or you could leave it where it is but make it flushed with the console, something custom that would look like its part of the console untill you lift it.

you would still need to have a groove around it in order to be able to grab it... maybe if someone put a cover over it? that would actually be a cool thing to see, leave it where it is and just slap a flip or slide cover on it... that'd be coooo

i agree with you the problem i ran into was a few things. the fuse pannel is right where you would mount the pedal e-brake. also i'm running custom kick pannels with 6.5" speakers which leaves hardly any room for a clutch pedal let alone a e-brake pedal. however if you were willing to deal with it being in the way of your fuse box and making some slight adjustments under there it could very well work. now they have a left/right handled e-brake that goes where your pedal brake would go. the mounting hardware is a little more shallow since it doesn't to be as strong. that's definately more of an option.

again as noted, the only time i have ever used the e-brake was to keep the car from rolling on jack stands back in the day. i agree that it should be accessable in case of an emergency for what ever reason and this way it is. it's not much more difficult to reach the brake in this location as it is anywhere else... although obviously not as easy as the factory location for you stock guys it works very well and the ability to build a smoother more complete console is that much greater.

i'm very happy with it. as far as how it looks, mine looks slightly different as the shifter assembly is wrapped in black suede. it looks identical to this picture though so i'm showing it to give others ideas just in case anyone was interested when i posted back about doing it. the polished handle with the black suede boot and console trim along a black carpet looks very clean and efficient. i'm very happy with it all.

i looked into this when i was making my shift indicator digital and thinking about a push button trans instead of the standard shifter. the problem i arised was getting over the subconcious of the electronics failling on me. i can deal with guages, radio equipment, even motor equipement being computer controlled but if i was going to keep the brake at all i wanted it manual just in case, same with the shifter.

i agree though, i like the electronic idea and i'm sure it would work very well. i've just had to many electronic pieces fail over the years in cars to do that with the brakes but if you ever do it i'd love to see it.

sit in your drivers seat, as easily as you lean forward to grab the seat adjustment lever to go forwar/backward you can easily go to the right of your leg and grab the e-brake. not exatly the best way of course but i haven't ever used the brake for anything other then small deals so it works for me....

hopefully that won't bite me down the road.

Ever thought about putting it on the left hand side of your drivers seat? Similar to the Lotus Esprit? That may also work out.

yes i thought of that, that was brought up in discussion above and in the other thread to mimic similar to the c4 corvette style. the problem is having to completely relocate the wire. if you really wanted to do that you could. i'm quite happy where it's at as it required little to no true fabrication work. made a small bracket that extended it and it was done. 10 min and 1 dollar. the worst part is lokar's prices but once you get over that. in my car you really can't see it as it blends nicely. definatley a modification you'd need to see in person to appreciate but the fact it allows for a better console design it's worth it ten fold and it doesn't require so much modification that you'll have to rethink the wheel.

simple and effective.

as far as the Ebrake is concerned. ive used mine on the 401 highway in toronto. anyone from ontario knows how the traffic there can be... anyways.. all the cars infront of me stopped and my brake pedel went to the floor. i put the shifter into low and slammed my foot down on the Ebrake and my 89 jimmy woahed itself to a stop just before i was about to drive into a stop barrier.

needless to say my E brake is always maintained now!
