Does anyone have any pics of the "replacement" molding vs the stock molding? I am painting my car and I got a new windshield from PPG and test fitted it today. The new windshield doesn't seem to be wide enough as the gaps between the windshield an the pillars are too big for the stock molding. The glass place said the replacement molding is thicker so it won't be a problem but I'd really appreciate it if someone could put up a pic of a car with the replacement molding so I can decide if I like it or not. Thanks!

I don't have any pics. But on my chevelle i did not want the chrome molding around the glass. I went to a place that installs glass told them what i was wanting to do. And they brought out a board with all diff size moldings. U will prob have to do the same thing.

 

When I had my windsheild put back in the guys said there were 2 different width's so i went with the wider one supposedly used on the later model 3rd gens as opposed to what my 86 came with originally.

Yeh my sisters 92 rs had thicker trim around the windsheild I took my windsheild out the other day ill be gettin a new one also when the time comes . I have a scratch from the wiper and 1 nick.

 

Awesome, I guessed right. I ordered new GM windshield trim and instead of getting the 82-84 trim, I got the 85-92 trim. I have a replacement windshield as well so the later trim should cover the gap.

Classic Industries PN# for the 85-92 GM Windshield Reveal Molding is G1083 and the price is $29.95.

 

After installing windshields for about 10 years I would never put back the oem molding on a thirdgen. The OEM molding is a push-in style..looks like a christmas tree, instead I would replaced with a "wrap around style"...it comes the same width. Main difference is the push in goes in after the windshield while the wrap around goes on the windshield first. Main disadvantage with the push in is the chance on getting a wavey look to it while it drys...and its generally messy to install. Plus, with the wrap around the molding holds the glass from being set in the opening to far.

This is the way I would go too if i was replacing the glass. I have painted two third gens and removed the moulding for paint and tried to get the larger OEM one back in there. What a pain and it didn't turn out perfect either time even though I cleaned the cavity out and trimmed some of the "Christmas tree" ribs down. Its a bitch of a job to do neatly unless you are removing the glass but if thats the case I too like the wrap around style. Much neater.

 

The one in that pic is the stock "narrow" molding is it not? If it is the thicker one then it looks good enough for me... I was afraid this replacement molding was going to cover like half of the pillar lol
