Watch my car be painted:PART 2 (NEW PICS)
Here's the base coat. It looks so much better with color. This is a lighter color than the Chrysler Platinum that is going on tomorrow.

It will be scuffed with 600, just to be sure its perfect, and then shot with PS4 (Chrysler Platinum Metallic). A little bit of custom airbrushing will be done.. and then a few coats of clear.

looks good. But y not just use some sealer. To get cover up the yellow primmer. And Are u going to lossen your bumpers before u paint any more? To get a small gap there. If u ever have to take that bumper off u will wish u did... But looks good. what was the code of that base

come on pimp i wanna see some more pics. And one thing that stood out to me , the hood needs to be adjusted to the pass side, it looks a little too close around the drivers side headlight bucket. It looks like it mihgt scrape paint . Maybe its just the pic. What do you plan on for airbrushing . all the airbrushing on 3rd gens ive ever seen doesnt look good so what do you have planned.

Thanks for telling me about the hood seem; its just the way it looks in that picture. The fitment is all very good. Here are a few new pictures with the Chrysler Platinum and the beginning of the bird.

That's awesome man. I like the bird-into-flames look. I've seen a couple 2nd gens done that way.

I'm going to be using the standard Firebird grilles. If I don't like them I can always paint the Trans Am ones and put those on instead- but I'll probably stay with the Firebird grilles.

Thanks for the complements guys.
The painter's name is Terry Cugini. He's legendary around here for his custom paint jobs, especially his airbrush work on cars and motorcycles. It just so happens that I am pretty good friends with his son, so that works out well.
As far as how he's doing the bird goes, I have been thinking about this idea for quite a while. I had made a few drawings, but nothing too great. As soon as I told Terry my idea, he sketched something up. Then he drew it on tracing paper, that's what that paper is on the hood. To get it symetrical, he simply flipped it over and traced the lines that were on the other side. This was very cool to see. I was very pleased with all of his work before, which is why I wanted him to paint my car. There are some pictures of his son's truck which he painted in this link: http://photobucket.com/albums/v679/t...illa/Firebird/
For now I'll be using a set of snowflake wheels that I media blasted and recleared. They'll work until I can afford a new set of rims.
Awesome paint, awesome bird. Who is that doing the bird and HOW.

Sorry guys, things have been pretty crazy lately. My Aunt just passed away and my Grandpa has been in the hospital, so as you can imagine I haven't had much extra time to run over and see on the car.
I'm going over tomorrow night to check up on the progress. The airbrushing should be done and hopefully some of the clearcoat. I'll snap some pictures just for you guys, duh.

I went over to see the car tonight. The pearl white still has to be sprayed, then some shadowing and a few touch-ups and it'll be ready for four coats of clear.

almost time for part 3, this thread is getting big...
I was thinking about something like that bird for my car, but was worried the power bulge being non-symmetric would look funny... Apparently not!
Any decals going on? Like "Trans-AM" or something like that? I was thinking of airbrushing that on before the clear, rather then a sticker...
Nice job!

Just an update.. I stopped over to see the car today and found out that my painter's mother-in-law just passed away.
Nothing will probably be done for the next few days, but as usual; you guys will be the first to know of any news.
It was my original goal to have the car back from paint and reassembled by the 21st for my Senior Prom; but I'm not sure that is going to happen. 20 days to go..
