Body Modification Ideas... need opinions
Well, I dont know about anyone else, but I really dont like the huge square turn signals on the front end. I think the whole frontend would be timeless but those... I dunno. Anyhow I just finnished up my 2nd year of Industrial Design, and now I have the skills to change some of this stuff, and work towards a design of my own. Plus body mods are the only thing to do when your flat broke
I was thinking of cutting out the parts around the turn signal, vacuum forming some plastic, and welding it in place. So that there would be 2 intakes there. Make it look a little more modern.
Or just fill them and move them up to the headlight cavity, like in the sketches.
Or fill it and add something smaller and round in it's place.
---
Here are some exploration sketches I was doing. Should give a better picture:

love the intakes....don't like the turn signals though. They look way out of place, like an after thought. I think the fact that you made them round is what hurts them the most. Our cars dont have anything on them like that. Can you incorporate them at all into the headlights? Do you have inspection where you live? If not, you can just leave them off.

Love the air inlets, but maybe have 3 lights in the headlights instead of two? Like 3 blocks?

If it was me i think using the turn signal pockets for air ducts is a cool idea. But i dont think where u put the turn signals would look good. I think if u did a custom grille in the center and but the turn signals behind the grilles would look 10 fold better. just my .02 cents

You couldnt be more might about the circular element, when the entire car is rectilinear... ie quare, angular.
And the lights behind the grill would be stealth!
Man this is why I like coming to you guys; keep the ideas coming and Ill whip up some more sketches tommorow.

You guys ever get that crusty crap in your eyes when you wake up in the morning? Those first round singals look like that stuff.
The ducts look awesome, though.

Use a dual filament hi/lo headlight bulb (from a firebird) then have the other housing the turn signal. Problem solved.

Isn't one of the maro lights a dual filament? That's the same size as the later 91-92 bird headlights anyways.

love the idea with the air ducts being in the turnsignals, but I believe someone has done it, not sure if they moved the signal yet.
You could go somewhere buy a exterior lamp to you liking(i think a clear lense be best) place in a orange light and place it in the grill like the 65-67 GTOs had. Old school, but still goes with the camaro, also if the housing was small enought you wouldn't lose much air air intake if any at all.

So how exactly would you go about putting these vents in? This is a question solely for the thread starter, but for everyone. How would you make a body modification like this using our front bumpers. Is it something relativley simple...can you do it to an existing bumper, or do you need to create a new mold...would it be extremely expensive? It is something I would like done, and would definetly pay for it if it was practical. So what is everones opinin?

1) Modify and sculpt a stock front facia, and then make a firbreglass mold from that pattern. But this is tricky to get to fit right and mounting it on the car.
2) Make a wood mold of just the vent section you want. Vacuum form it out of plastic (preferably urethane but I dont know if urethane vacuum forms well.) Weld in the sections, or bond them if it isnt urethane.
3) Make a 2 sided mold, and thermoform urethane sheet. Weld in the sections.
4) Find the events you want on another car with a urethane bumper, and with enough luck, weld them in.
The bumper isnt gonna hold up forever, not like a stock bumper cover. But should be okay.

Sketch looks cool, but I agree with the turn signals. Just do an H4 conversion on the outer headlights and, as mentioned above, use the inner space for the turn signal. You could even put a grille there and put a hidden turn signal behind it

As for the turn signal, I like the idea you sketched on the far right, in the middle. That circular pattern looks cool.
