CarCraft Camaro's paint

I am wondering what the problem is with painting my car the way car craft did on their project camaro this month.

They used dupont building primer and sealer, then added 15% top color to get the perfect (their and my opinion) shade of black, with an "eggshell" sheen. I have always wanted to do this, but I have been told that you can't leave a car primered, because it rusts. Primer is porous. Then it fades and looks like ****.

But this is sealer and primer. They say rust shouldn't be a problem. They added the stripes and it looks really cool.

I have searched for a picture to show you guys, but I don't think they have it online yet.

Is that an option? I really like this idea, and with a building primer, they say that it fills in scratches, and imperfections. I have never been a fan of high gloss paint, ever since I was a kid, and I really think that this might be just what I am looking for.

Give me some opinions....

If u want that eggshell finish. Get some singal stage paint. And Have them add a flatner. than u will not have to worrie about it. I used it on my hood. Worked great. But did not like how it looked.(did the hood flat black)

after hours of research I have learned to use john deere blitz black. This provides the perfect ammount of sheen for me as depicted in the many pictures I have seen.

Do any of you guys have any experience with it?

They used a PPG Epoxy Primer. It is also a sealer. You do not have to top coat this primer.

I used this on my car, and it has been sittiing in it for about a month. I have washed it and wet sanded many time, and it is not rusting.

Yeah, I looked back and saw it was the dupont epoxy sealer. How much is that stuff per gallon?

I have always wanted my car to have that exact paint job, and to be a 1st gen camaro, but paint can only do so much.

Johnny, do you have a pic of your camaro that is after you painted it like this.

I am contemplating using blitz black, as that seems to be the standard in the rat rod community. I have seen many nice pictures of blitz black, so I think that might be the way I go. It is only 22 per gallon too. With primer, hardner, and thinner, it comes out to under $100.

I am really interested in the single stage process of this epoxy though. Does it provide any uv protection? I have heard that it isn't sturdy enough to handle sun abuse, and I don't have a garage.

Johnny, don't forget the pic. You can email it to me if you want. foney_email@yahoo.com Thanks

Jay

Trying to get my puter at home fixed so I can post pics.

Mine is not black, I used PPG expoy in a blue color. It is a real cool, med blue, but it is getting covered soon. I am taking the car Tommorrow to the paint booth. I will take many pics as it is blue, then we are spraying Bright Orange for the base coat. It will then get at least one coat of HOK Copper Penny Pearl, then several coats or clear.
