Okay the hood is supposed to pop up so you can slide your fingers in and unlatch the clip and raise the hood....well w/i the last 2 weeks the popping has stopped and I have to rapidly press on the hood for it to wiggle free and finally push up.
What do I need to adjust? The cable?
Any ideas?

losen the 2 bolts that hold the latching bar on the hood, just enough so they still hold the bar in place but so you can move it with your fingers. now push the hood down a few times so the bar hits the latch but not enough to catch. tighten bolts and smile while you no longer have to do a drum solo on you hood

Keep the hood latch well-greased. My hood used to do that also. Hit it with some PB Blaster first to clean it. Wipe off excess and then apply some multi-purpose grease to the latch. I use the silicone grease that I use for greasing the front end. Open and close the hood a few times to work the grease in. I haven't had problems since.
Also you may need to replace the hood spring. They do wear.

I agree.. On two thirdgens with the same problem, greasing that latch up really good seemed to work wonders.
Drum solo
... Yeah I remember having to do that. Good way to describe it.

You might also want to try and adjust the latching mechanism itself. It may have fallen/moved downward over time after so many hood closings.

I found it was almost always a stretched cable.
add a couple bb shot fishing wieghts in there for a temp fix, then lube it all up good to slow down further wear on the cable.

the cable can stretch all it wants, it makes no difference on opening. only thing that holds the handle back from sliding right out is the cable itself. ask me how i know...

I dont have to do a solo. I've got it down to where i just hit it once in the right spot and it pops.
awhile back when i had some work done on the car the mechanic simply put grease on it and it worked for about 6 months till it wore off....
explain this "adjusting the hook latch" deal in more detail please.

I always wonder about our Yukon's pull release.. The thing has as next to zero pull weight as you can get, but whatever works, I guess...
