My Camaro is a flinstone-mobile... HELP!

I knew there was rot, but I didnt think it was this bad...
Will I be able to use replacement floor pans to fix this problem or should I strip the car for what it's worth and junk the rest of it?

That's really rough since its spreading up the kick panel area as well. Also, odds are you'll find more rust (check wheel wells, etc). The problem is floorpans are expensive if you don't get them used, and its alot of money to have someone install them. I'm sure someone can give you an estimate on what you'd pay, then judge for yourself if you should scrap it.

Yep, looks like I just bought a parts car...

There was so much dirt under the car when I checked it out, it looked like there was very little rust, after I powerwashed the undercarriage I saw how bad it was. Ripped out the front seats, and pulled the carpet back.

If floor pans will fix my problem, then I will buy and install them myself, I'm just worried about buying the floor pans and then having nothing to weld them to. I found floor pans for $500 including shipping.

Do you think I should sell the camaro I have now and try to make my money back on it... or save it for parts. I was debating buying a 'bird and putting a camaro nose on it, so this could be my oppurtunity...

Jim, I would pull out the carpet a little further to see how far back the damage goes, I would also check out the trunk area / rear wheel wells and quarters....

If its just the floorpans that are really getting bad, I would say go ahead and replace them. If your going to have to do floor pans, rear trunk pan, quarters etc... your looking at major cash.

I know in my car that hasnt seen winters, I have a tiny bit of rust starting at the very bottom of my passenger side wheel well, as well as some rust on the passenger side floor pan (that came from a leaky window....)

I feel your pain though, its really tough to find decent thirdgens up in this area.

I dont know what you paid etc... but you may be better off either parting it out or selling it off and trying to find something in better shape.

I know there is a 88 Iroc in Ballston Spa that has a bunch of upgrades that they want 5,200 for. I havent looked at it, and its been in the wantaddigest for awhile now, so it may be junk?

I only paid $900 for it. The only thing that sucks is I'm on Workers Comp because of a back injury... it takes me FOREVER to save money because of those ******. I went from taking home $850 per week to $270 per week

It took me 6 months so save up $1500 to build myself a new PC. I saw the camaro and ebay-ed my PC for 800 bucks and change to get the car.

I think I'm gonna try and sell it in 1 piece for $1000, and just start saving for that low mileage '92 5.7L Z-28 I've always wanted. There are 2 very nice '92 Z-28s on ebay right now. Both of them have under 25k miles.

I keep telling myself "You should have never sold your Camaro" but whats done is done. I had a MINT 89 Camaro that I bought for $2000 back in '01. I put about $12,000 into that car where it needed it. It was showroom condition when I got rid of her. Out of sheer desperation, I sold the car for $3500. I needed the money.

Well for what you paid, Just drive it for the summer and enjoy it. Part it out over the winter. I'm sure you can make back the money you paid pretty easy in parts.

are the 2 Z's your talking about around here?

I would fix it dont let another third gen go to the junk yard, it looks like you will just have to have some metal custom fitted to weld in and then the rest just buy a replacement floor pan. thats what i would do

I think you just bought a parts car. Unless you have some sort of huge sentimental attachment to it, it may be easier to buy a roller and put all the good stuff on that.

I was looking for a fixxer-upper, but this thing was worse then I thought it was... I'm just gonna see if I can sell it and make my money back. I only have about $100 into the car, I had replaced the fuel lines. And I threw in white face gauges.

Heres some pics... 56K beware: CLICK HERE

The kid that owned the car before me tried to **** it out. The interior was in 1000 pieces and he began to paint everything red in the interior. Luckly all he painted was the coat hangers, reaarview mirror, and fan conrtol ****.

Car is up for sale as of last night.

That's not very honest trying to sell it like that. Let the buyers know what they are in for.....

i agree with 911rsq. you should tell them that it needs floor boards also. its messed up selling some thing that needs repairs and you dont disclose it. its true that someone who is buying a car should look through the car before they buy it but if you know about it you should list it.

AKA.... Seller doesn't mind screwing over someone who is trying to pick up a fairly rust free car, who may not know to check out the floorboards near the drivers side rocker panel.....
Dude, that ain't cool. I read thru this post the first time and thought about offering up some rust free floorpans and rockers to you becauseyou seemed like an OK guy. I guess not everyone in a 3rd gen is a good person.......
