Rust never sleeps

The upper inside wheel well body side seam of my RS has developed a rust line / crack. Appears to be forming from the back side into the well. I've always kept these areas clean and was suprised to find this.. rust never sleeps. Anyone have the same problem? Cut and weld time?

if your talking about the rear wells, its not a crack its the seam where they meet the rest of the body, and that seam is the reason they are rusting.. eventually stuff gets trapped in there

Now trying to mitigate and control any further damage. Going to try from the wheel well side and see if I can also access this area from under the rear hatch panel if that's possible.

The under side and weel well areas of the RS were never sprayed with undercoating as far as I can tell. I also treated a small rust area under the drivers side floor pan and it like the wheel wells, are free of undercoating. As mentioned before, I keep the car clean and the underside rinsed but, as you mention the body seams must retain enough (undetectable) debris or mositure to have started the on set of rust damage.

Do you have a repair or prevention suggestions? Thanks for the reply.

Oil spray the car every year. No other rust proofing, most of it is a gimic, just oil.

Hey, I had the exact same problem. Right on that seam. I was fixing allthe rust on my car, so i took the intirior out and just cut all the metal out around there and welded in little squares, since there is no way i could get a curved piece just like what was rusted. I have a lot of picks on my site.

I am at work and don't think i can post pics from here. I will try. If i can't I really recomend going to my site and finding the page with the pics.

Hope this helps

You may be right... At one time there was a oil leak problem that coated the underside passenger side floor board... no rust under that side of the car.

Enjoyed touring the pics of your project / ride. Those rear wheels are huge! Thanks again for the tips. Time to warm up the welder..
