OMG, heads up dash display is quite annoying!

THIS IS NOT A HUD OF THE GUAGES...please read...

I got this reflection of my dash in my window which is quite obstructing to my vision. I basically have to tilt my head to the left and look throught the speaker grill reflection which isn't so bad. I suppose its from the sun peaking in the sky around noon.

Is this something I just have to deal with?

Is there a dull plastic protectant (ex. armor all)?

I am not going to put in a dash carpet...

Does anyone know what I am talking about?

No 3rdgen Fbody ever had a Heads up display.

Whitehawk is just talking about the reflection of his dash on the bottom of his windshield.
Every 3rdgen that i've been in has this reflection, luckly i'm tall enough where my eye level is well above the reflection in the windshield.

Then what is he talking about, when he says,

"OMG,Heads up dash display is quite annoying"

That's what I mean!

And I know, no 3rd gen had a HUD, that's why I ask.
And if that's so, this is not a 3rd gen related question, is it ?

He's merely using it as a analogy, because in a way its kinda like a HUD since your dash is on display on the bottom of the windshield. Notice how he says, heads up dash display Then go's on talking about how the reflection of the dash in the windshield is annoying and blocking his vision.

Hey Hey WhoA now.

This is a serious issue. I am talking about staring at my dash through the windshield and not being able to see anything ahead of me except dashboard because its reflecting off the windshield.

I was wondering if anybody knew of a good way to prevent this, or if I just have to deal with it.

Sorry for the dismay

Dim the lights via the gauge light dimmer maybe ?

Use mothers natural shine vinyl and rubber protectant, not glossy, unless you do two coats, and no greasy film like armor all, and doesnt promote cracking like armor all.

I think the main problem occurs when you use a shiny protectant and drive the car in the daytime, with the sun shining down on the dash. The reflection up onto the winshield is annoying, if not dangerous.

I use black magic on all of my interior stuff. Not glossy but very nice and professional looking. Also lasts a long time and seems to repel dust lol.

The secret to applying it is to once over like normal, let it dry and fog for 10 seconds or so, and then wipe it down and kind of rub it in with the same towel, don't apply any more.

Kind of like waxing and polishing. Looks very nice!

Is this a day or night problem ?

(if daytime) Probably why what I said appears pretty stupid.
Crappy night vision, 5% tint, and overly bright gauges/stereo always bothered me with glare.

Never had a daytime problem.. might be from sitting far back as possible and the 5% tint too...

Daytime problem. Dash pad is reflected on the inside of the windscreen thanks to sunlight.

you could always install the carpet cover for the dash that can be bought at advanced auto or another mfg...

ARMOR-ALL has been proven to dry out vinyl and cause it to crack over long periods of use.

You want to get rid if that shine? wipe down the dash with some rubbing alcohol, and use windex to clean it from now on. I've been using windex for the past 6 years, and I still have no cracks, while my buddies use armor all and theres has gone to hell in a handbasket

STP's Son of a gun is a good one as well, it was recommended by a reputable interior shop here in town. They said to keep the Armor all on the tires, and out of the interior.

I find that it does not "Shine" it like Armor all, but gives it a very clean factory look.

Sounds like blackmagic or windex can help me out. I'll give her a try this weekend.

Thanks Gents

Windex might clean the dash, but it won't provide any UV protection on the dash. It also won't replenish any of the natural oils in the vinyl. I use 3M products. The interior in my car has the same reflectiveness as it did the day it was new. It has a very low sheen, but looks clean.

Wow, that picture is something you would see in a commercial, or is that not your car?

I would NOT recommend WINDEX or other window cleaners with Amonia, as I know from experience with working with plastics that those types of cleaners may not be friendly to some plastics. Amonia will craze acrylic (Plexiglas) I have seen some cleaners actually fog butrate, the Vinyl top of our dash needs all of the oils it can get to stay flexible, if you remove those oils then you have taken away its elasticity.

If this problem is as bad as you say, get some polorized sun glasses, it will save you some heart ache.

I remember in a materials class something about the plastic loses its elastic properties and putting the protectants on keeps the plastic from losing its inherent properties and the protectant deteriorates.

armor all replaces the oils in the plastic/vinyl with its own.
so as long as you keep using it, it works great.

stop for a couple months, and your dash will crack in the sun
