Help..Hatch wont Pull down...
Alrite since ive had my car the power hatch pull down mechanism has been kinda f-ed up. Most of the time, it will pull it all the way down, click, and then send it back up. I posted something in the History/Restoration Board and someone said that i needed a striking sensor or something like that. TDS sells them. Anyway, the basic problem is that it doesnt close most of the time, and is very unreliable..so essentially i dont open it. Now from what i read if it is the sensor striking switch thats going bad, it will work sometimes, but most of the time it will malfunction and just send the hatch back up. Now the big problem is that im getting my windows tinted this saturday and their gonna need to open my hatch. I want to know what is wrong with my pull down (if in fact its not the sensor striking thing thats messed up), and with what may be wrong, is it possible to close the hatch after a few random attempts even with the malfunction.
Im sorry if that was confusing, its just that even if i ordered the part it probably wouldnt be here by saturday and i just need to know whether my hatch malfunctions on a random basis, or it will never close again once i open it.

They only time mine hasn't worked, I checked the connections on the relay, it tends to build up some corrosion on the terminals, you might check those out.

So essentially i should be able to get my hatch closed this weekend when they tint my windows. I would be led to believe that all of the mechanics back there are in good condition because my car only had 47k miles and has been meticoulously maintained.
1 incidence was when we were at the dealer picking the car up the guy like slammed down teh hatch not realizing it was a pulldown. Thing is though, that it worked a few times after that before it didnt work, then it worked, then it didnt. And we havent tried it since then. Maybe its just on a random basis??
Im cool if i need to buy the part, i just wanna know ASAP whether or not it needs it. Im also fine with the fact that it might onyl close 50% of the time..as long as it closes. Its no big deal for me to have to close it twice to get it to stay. Any other opinions welcome and NEEDED!!!!

just put a little pressure on it until it clicks all the way closed and it'll close itself... don't push too hard and mess nothing up though.
mine does that sometimes, it's just wear and tear on the latch, it has just enough little play to let it slip out when it tries to get that final lock on it, especially if the back is full of something that might put a little pressure upwards on the hatch (like laundry or something), but it still shuts 85% of the time.
Sometimes it'll come back up and not want to grab again too, but if you leave a little pressure on it for one full up and down cycle, it'll grab at the end of the cycle.

Well I see it's time you got acquainted with your hatch motor, get to know it well because you two are gonna be best friends.
My hatch motor has always given me trouble, and since GM switched the design half way through the 1991 model year, it's hard to find parts for our cars. Check the junkyard for a 91/92 F-Body and rip out the motor, and keep it for parts.
If all else fails, just lower the motor all the way by hand (hold down the sensor) and then unplug it. You should be able to open it with the key and then slam it shut after that.
