Firebird Fender Air Extractor

I have two questions.

1) Are the GTA fenders with the Air Extractors the same as a regular Firebird fenders with the exception of the holes for the extractors? (i.e. Can I order the Air Extractors from Classic Industries and cut the appropriate holes for them to work with my standard Formula fenders without a lot of custom body work?)

2) Which RPO code indicated the inclusion of the Air Extractors? Was it Y84 or WS4?

Trans Ams have the air extractors, GTAs do not.
It was near the end of the production, that none of the cars got the air extractors. 1991 to be exact.
1982-1984 style have longer, bigger openings, while the 1985-1990 have shorter, smaller openings, due to the aero package cutting into the extractor.

Hope this helps,

George

OK ....... Here's what it boils down to. Can I install these air extractors (see photo out of Classic Industries Catalog) into my standard Formula fenders without doing much else other than just cutting the holes (and, of course, having them painted)?

Maybe so, BUT ...........

$75 + 'Do It Myself' labor

versus

$400 or $500 + Professional Paint Job

If it's possible, I'll cut the fenders that I already have. If it's not possible, I'll just have to do without.

there is a little lip in the fenders that are made to fit the air extractors. Basically, if you took the plastic extractor out of the fender, you would see a recessed ledge in the fender that goes about 1/8- 1/4" behind the air extractor. I wish I had a picture, it would be much easier to see it than read a description. The ledge is there so that the air extractor sits flush with the rest of the fender. Also, if you don't have 85-90 ground effects on your bird, the vents from an 82-84 Trans Am would look better because the vent is longer and doesn't have that flat blank area that the ones in the picture you posted have (that area sits behind the higher 85-90 ground effects).

Also,
Just so you know, that picture has them upsidedown!
The big black spot is for the aero package to cover.
You could cut the holes in the fender smaller, and put these in, then bondo them to fit. But again, then you have to paint the whole fender.
I've done this on second gens.
