Yet, another ground effects question.
Alright, before search is said. I did search back to 9-29-04 in post looking for info. I did find some, but not all of what I'm looking for.
First, I am doing REVERSE of what everyone else does. I have 91-92 style, and I am going back to 85-90 style.
From my findings, please verify:
On the sides/rear fender, the mount appears to be about the same, and same location. One bracket/stud thru the side of the car.
Side rocker area, many tabs underneith the car. May have to drill new holes.
Side/front fender area. The 91-92 style is held in with metal brackets. Where these 85-90 are somehow mounted with 2 bolts behind the emblem. These holes are not even close the same positions. Since I intened to remove the emblem area. I will need to drill these holes in the fender. Install new bolts in the gfx and epoxy them in, then fill in over the bolts.
I've not had to remove my inner rear quarter panels to access the rear bolt. What is the best way to go about this?
Thanks.

I just did this on a 1992 camaro that I installed the 85-90 style on. The only part that is a direct bolt up is the rear bumper. Everything requires modification. The rear quarter panel pieces have the mounting holes in completly different places. I had to modify the the metal piece welded to the body that holds the rockers, the door pins didn't perfectly line up, and the front chin spoiler required modification to the fenders.
The job came out great, but way way way to much work is involved and I would not want to do it again.

Didnt know the rear bumper was different. Planned on leaving it the same.
I dont have the chin spoiler yet. From my readings, it should be a direct swap as well
My GFX have a metal tab on the back with a stud sticking out from it which looks like it should screw right into the body??
This is all surprising on the doors as it sounds like they should mount right up. O well... more fun for me

The rear quarter pieces are different between the years so to flow correctly they changed the rear bumpers as well.
For the most part the front spoiler is a direct swap but not where it attachs to the fenders, they are different.
The part of the rocker that bolts into the body is not the problem. When you remove your rocker panels you will see the mounting plate they bolt to which is actually welded to the body. That panel is to wide and the older style will not fit flush with the body so you have to trim that down.
The door holes MAY line up for you but weren't good enough for me to have the perfect fit I wanted, so I had to modify the holes a bit.
The quarters are a major pain, as they put the mounting holes in way different spots.
Rear bumper goes right on.

ok david, I see what your talking about. I went out and started taking the car apart so I didnt look like a dummy.
Back mount is off by about .5" or so. Will need new hole.
Sill plate area thru the door jamb will have to be re-drilled(possibly cut back by your comments).
Front mount is totally different. Will have to get me some bolts and epoxy them in. Drill holes in fender.
Have not gotten to the door ones.
whenever I get chin spoiler. I belive my left fender is a 85-90 as I had to cut slits in it to get my 91 to fit on it.
Rear bumper..
To me it looks like it matches perfect to the new gfx.
So what does everyone do with exisiting holes so dirt and water doesnt get in? Weld, fiberglass, tape.. what?

Any reason why your going back to the 85-90 style? Purely cosmetic? Hey while youv got those off, is there any weight difference between the two styles or no? Just curious...

yes, cosmetic only. I like the smooth sleek look, its still in me from my mini-truck days. Gotta find a flat hood again too, UGH.
I dont have my 91/92 off yet. But the 85-90 is fiberglass, and 91/92 is rubber. IMO the fiberglass will weight more.

How much will you sell the rocker moldings for?
