Rust, should i get rid of the car?

I paid $600 for a 1984 Z28 about a month ago. I have spent many hours on custom interior, and fixing the leaky T-Tops.
After installing 1/2 the hand-made interior i notice a rust hole. This hole is about the size of a baseball, and its right on the inner wheel well behind the backseat armrest panle. I it has 3 or 4 metal sheets crossing in this area. It just hit me hard after all the work I did on the interior i'll have to take everything back out to fix a rust hole. Not only that, i'm not sure if thats the only bad area I have, there is small rust all over the place, but i'm not going to be able to fix it without a garage to work in. Should I get rid of this car ? I paid $600 for it, I have an extra 300 in spark plugs and custom interior. I just dont think this is a good first project car for me , specialy without a place to work on it.

Find all the rust before you decide anything. Did you pull the carpet? What did you see? If you spent $300 on plugs and the interior (hopefully more like $10 on plugs and $290 on interior) then just pull it and toss it in a new car, theres no loss there. Stuff like that is easy for a shop, and pulling the carpet and reinstalling can easily be done in under a day. Also less time consuming than shopping for new cars and driving around trying to find ones you like.

if its got that much rust in one spot, Ill bet it is all over. Part in out or sell it off. Too much $$$ to fix it right.

I say before you have too much into the car, get rid off it. Mine doesn't have any holes that big and I am wishing I started with a southern body but I am 1.5 years into my project.

If you do the math of how long time and effort it is going to take you to fix rust vs. traveling 1000 miles and bringing back a car, next time I am going south.

Look at the rest of the car, the floor pans in these cars are pretty thin, any deep pit will go right through creating a pin hole. And that's a start. Chances are you have to replace half the floor pan.

before you really decide, see how much more rust the car has.

we didn't do this with a 91 RS my friend bought, and halfway through swaping the engine did we discover the massive amounts of holes the car has, too late at that point so we just welded in patch pannels all over the place, if we had it to do over again, we woulda just just walked away from that car.

Ask $900 (i am guessing cause you said you paid 600 + 300 in parts) for it. Most people arent expecting a whole lot from a $900 car
