t top winter precautions..

ive got an 85 iroc and last night was one of the 1st below freezing nights around here. there was ice on my tops and when i went around a corner i heard a crack...it was the ice, not the tops. but with it being so cold is there anything i should look out for\do for my t tops during the winter? i dont want them 2 crack or anything. i read somewhere that the heat from ur heater with it being real cold out could crack them? thats not true is it? doesnt sound it to me..but..u never know. anyways, let me know if u guys can think of somethings all of us winter time 3rd genners should look out for!

Got glass or lexan tops? I had both, I did nothing to prep either for the winter. Just don't bang em around when its freezing and you'll be fine.

I mean... they're glass. It won't just break from the cold. Personally I wouldn't remove them during the winter (no reason to anyway) just becuase the rubber is harder at that time. My main problem was the cold always seems to ruin those seals on the outside that overhangs the window glass. No way around it really, comes with age.

since i'm storing my car for the winter i think all i'm gona do is either buy a car cover for it, or get a tube of clear silicone and seal the edges of the t tops so moisture cannot find its way in.

If you get a car cover get a good one. My $50 deal from Summit let's moisture through, rubs off my paint, tore already, and doesn't fit at all. Summit blows.

I've been known to take my t-tops off in the winter, as long as it's not raining and the sun is out. Kind of rare here in the Pac Northwest.

Does your windshield crack when you have the defrost on?? The only way they will crack is if you dump a bucket of hot water on them...

didn't see the above post about the cracked windshild with defrost on...

Anyway, I cracked my windshild last winter by trying to pound the ice of with my fist. Cracked it in two places

If you are going to worry about stuff like the t-tops then there are alot more immediate things I would concern myself with first.Like the dashpad. You might want to remove that sucker and get it inside for the real cold part of winter. They are famous for cracking in the really coldest most miserable parts of winter.

If you want to protect your car, don't expect $50 to do the trick. I bought my CoverCraft cover from summit for $250. It lets in water, but only so it can let it back out again. I've had the cover for 5 years, it is a custom fit, and on super windy days i have to tie it from eyelid to eyelid under the car. It has not ripped, I can wash it at home in my washing machine, and it's thick and soft, protecting it from acorns, etc. dinging the car.
