Check out my new paint job!
Hello fellow third genners,
I spent most of the summer working on repainting my Trans Am. I started in April and painted the car and parts the last two weeks of September. I finally got it done for the most part last weekend. The weather was great and I got to take the car out and finally enjoy the fruits of my labor. Luckily the weather last weekend was great here and I got some good pictures. I still have a few small things to do but it sure is nice to have this project done. I have attached a couple pictures and a link to my Car Domain site. If you have time sign my guest book and if you like it give me a vote. Thanks and hope to hear from a few of you!
Thanks, Martin

Don't take this the wrong way but I like the pictures taken at night-time better than the day-time pics. Nice Color.

Looks good.
I'm wanting to start the body work on my "Z" and it also has T-tops. I was wondering how much paint did you buy and what type of paint did you go with. How long did it atke you to paint the car after the body work was complete? Did you use a gravity gun or cannister gun? Thanks for any input and advice you can give.

Thanks for the compliments everyone!
As far as the car "sitting high" I would love to lower the front about an inch or two. But this will have to wait. I might lower the car a bit at all four corners. I'm just not sure how much to lower it or what kind of springs to get. I'll have to do research on that later.
The paint is the same color used on newer Dodge trucks. I just love the color and think it is a very nice red. The paint code is Chrysler #407F4 Flame Red. I think I ended up getting about 6 quarts of primer with alot of that going on the hood. Most of it was sanded back off. I used 2 quarts of sealer. I used 3 quarts of base color on the body. I ended up buying another pint of color after the paint wrinkled on the hood (long story). I probably should have just bought a gallon of color but with the price of the red I didn't want to buy too much and not use it. The motor and fender wells were painted before and I used a single stage urethane that matches the color I used on the car. As far as clear I used 5 quarts of clear. I didn't have any rust or body damage except for some door dings.
All of the priming was done out in the yard. Far away from anything that the overspray would get on. I have a conventional siphon fed gun but ended up buying a gravity fed HVLP. You really have less waste and overspray with a HVLP and I really liked using it. I built a "spray booth" in my garage by making a 2x4 frame about 20' x 16'. I stapled and taped clear plastic over the frame taking care to make sure everything was sealed up. I cut out areas on the far side of the booth and installed heater filters to filter the incoming air. On the other side I cut the plastic sheet and used 2 box fans with heater filters for exhaust fans. I took great care to make sure everything was sealed. I think it cost me about $120 to build the booth. It really worked good and with clean filters over the fans it would suck the sides of the booth in quite a bit. I had 2 different sheets of plastic on the opening end so that I could get the car and parts in and out. They overlapped to keep that end sealed. I didn't get any overspray in the garage and it didn't seem to stink up the house either.
If I had to change anything I would have used more lights. I have flourescent lights in the garage and did most of the painting in the daytime. Since I used clear plastic it let light in the booth from the garage door and windows. I did have a worklight that I used outside the booth but the more light you have the better.
Hope I answered everyones questions. Thanks again for the compliments. I appreciate every one of them.
Thanks, Martin

that looks awesome! Very nice work. Did you refinish your rims too? the lip looks particularly shiny.
