manual shifter ****
Is there a trick to removing the gear shift **** on a manual trans. in an '88 GTA? I figured it would be better to ask before I broke it.

The cover sometimes slips on the threaded ball inside the handle. Just gotta grip it tighter, best you can. Factory really muscles them on if its never been off.

If you're tossing your factory ****, a pipe wrench works keen.....
Seriously, squeeze like a ***** and turn counterclockwise. I've seen
them so tight, that you had to hold onto the shaft with a vise grip to keep
them from turning together, which is not a good thing since the shaft is
hollow.....

one trick is to use a die grinder. are you getting a new one or something? if so i wouldnt worry about it staying in good shape and just thrashing it till its off.
