jegs seats anyone?

Has anyone bought and installed the leather-like race seats (not the APC ones) that Jeg's is selling? I think Summit also sells something similar to this as well.

If so, how have you liked them and MORE importantly, how did you mount them? I am wondering if they might be too wide for our cars. Thanks for any insights you might care to share.

No one has tried these? Guess I may end up being the first if my curiosity gets the best of me. Anyone? Anywhere?

or are you talking about the plastic racing seat with the separate cover you have to buy?

iansane-- YES! Those are the kind. Evidently you have been successful at mounting them. Can you describe your install and how it went? I was not referring to the plastic seats with separate seat cover thing that 406maro was referring to, but exactly what you pictured there. They almost seem too wide to fit, but evidently you got them in there. Any insights you can share on mounting these, etc. would be appreciated!

Oh-- iansane.... forgot to ask... what are you doing for seatbelts? Without the bracket on the side of the seat to handle the shoulder belt, I would think you would have to install some sort of racing harness. If that is what you did, how did you mount the straps that go through the two holes at the top of the seat? It is evidently dangerous to mount them to the rear floor because of possible spinal compression in an accident. Any insights on that? Thanks!

They are almost too wide to make fit well. If I hadn't gotten them so cheaply I wouldn't have bought them Last I saw they were priced at ~195/ea in summit? I payed about 80/ea. I bought them through schucks (an autoparts store, they don't have them in ohio). They were priced at a little over a hundred each and I bought them with my discount. I haven't put the passanger side in yet but will take some pictures when I do.

They come with sliders but no frame to mount the sliders to the car. It wasn't difficult to make an adapter though. I just bent up some 1 1/2" wide flat stock to get a somewhat flat base and then made a square to bollt the sliders to and for stability.

As for the seatbelts, I'm using simpson 4 pt harnesses which hold me in well. Although I don't like the unadjustability for passangers. All my friends know how to adjust them though which doesn't take much.

To mount the shoulder harnesses on my car I just bolt them to the rear passangers should belt retractor location. Although I have a vert and it's different for hard tops. There is still enough room in one ~2" spot to stick the stock style seatbelt female side between the console and the seat.

I do have the fourthgen console which I don't know if that makes a difference. I think it's a tad wider than the stock console.

They fit with the factory firebird console. I have both front seats in my car. I used the factory brackets on mine. Took them off factory seats, used the front hole, marked and drilled for the back holes, bolted them back up. They are a cheap option until I am ready to step up. They do sit a bit higher than I care for in this configuration.

You've got 'em in your ride too? I figured since they weren't red....

Yeah, they are a bit taller than I wanted. When I test fitted them installed with the stock brackets I hit my head on the fabric top.

I still do if I spike/gel my hair.

I guess there's another thing you don't have to worry about Schultzy.

Not the summit/Jegs brand, but here's my sport style seats I got off ebay.

To fix the mounts, I took the sliders off these seats and my stock seats, made some "tabs" to bolt to these seats, then bolt my stock sliders to the tabs and bolt into car. For more info on how I did it search on here, I done a write up on the install after I put them in, and posted it on here with alot of pics.

Here's another shot..

BTW.. I'm useing stock seat belts. I just hang the shoulder belt over the top/side of seat shoulder booster.

I won't use any type of harness with out a roll bar seat cross bar. Just not safe to mount them anywhere other than a crossbar.

I'm in the middle of a roll cage install now, and after I get that in I'll go to a 5 point harness, with shoulder belts hooked to the cage's seat crossbar

Thanks for all the great info guys! I really appreciate it! Looks like this is do-able and I will be getting these seats right after I get the new engine this spring. Now I need to decide on a color. My interior is beige/tan with black console/dash, etc.. I am seriously thinking the black, but they offer a tan as well. Any opinions? The tan looks like it will almost match the stock color, so I may go that way so it fits well with the new carpet and stock back seats.

Night rider 327, thanks for the info on the seat belts. Guess I can just leave the stockers and drape them over the side of the seat... never thought of that! I'll be looking up your install info ASAP through the search feature.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help.

I got the tan. It is pretty close but lighter than factory.

Firebird1984... Your welcome.

mw66nova.... Mine weighs 31 lbs each ready to bolt in. That's useing the camaro seat tracks/sliders and my flat bar tabs to adapt the stock sliders to seats.

My stock camaro seats with sliders on them weighed 36 lbs each.

So 10 lbs weight savings for the set over the stock seats. Not alot but every little bit helps.

they sell seats JUST like the black ones above at the checker here in town. The last time I checked they were only 139 a piece.
As far as the weight, I lifted one to get a guesstimate and they feel heavier than the stockers, hence the reason I didn`t buy them.

Well if I could find a set of 3rd-4th gen seats in great condition for the price of what I can get these for, I'd be all over it. Right now I could stand a new pair of seats and for the moment these will do nicely and fit the current budget. I've seen these mounted in a 1967 Camaro that is owned by a coworker and they look and feel great when I sat in them. For the price it will be hard to beat these in my book. These do have the harness openings in them by the way although I don't think I will go that route.

Actually, I think they might have Schucks under either the Kragen or Checkers banner back east.

Nope. Farthest I think CSK goes is Tex-***. California is ALL Kragen except for one Schucks store and most of the rest is checker.

Autozone is nationwide though. Cheap crap as well.

Just out of curiousity, is gh for Gig Harbor? I'm up in Kirkland, but grew up down by Mt. Rainier. I have friends that live down in your area of the sound.

Does anyone have a part number for these simulated leather seats from CSK. I'm in Houston, Tx and CSK only goes as far east as El Paso, so I have to order them but they don't have them on their website.

They are lighter, mine are at least 10lbs lighter.

The have much more support, esp. lateral, and you can fit a 5 point with them.

Stock seats don't work well with 5 point harnesses- I was replying to Dirtbik3r.

That's the part number, but on the CSK website it says "Not currently available". How can I get some of these in light grey. Thanks for your help. BTW, what is SKU?

CSK only sells them in black. So you'd have to go through summit/jegs for gray. Where's the closest store to you? I could always find out their location number and just transfer some down there to them. And you could go pick them up.

A SKU is just a companies 7 digit "code" for a specific item.

Ah that sucks, my interior is all light grey so I'd want to do the seats in light grey, but jegs wants like $220 a piece for them. If they are cheap enough though I could swing the black. The closest CSK according to their website is in El Paso which is on the other side of Texas from Houston.

Iansane, I just noticed you paid $80 a piece, I would definately do black for that price. If you could see how much over a $100 they go for and if they ship to residential or business addresses. El Paso is way too far. Their website says they will ship to your house or whatever but they don't list the seats as available.

For sure, I appreciate it. I will pm you my address. On that link though it says the seats are unavailable. Did they stop offering them or is that just the website? Thanks for all the help.

Okay, I figured it out. They don't want to ship to me cause of my zip. If I put in a higher number zip that is farther west in the US then it says available for order. Hmmm, there must be some way around this.
