I am Installing a Roof Console in my 3RD Gen. Formula . I was just wondering how I might Locate UNDER the Headliner the 4 MOUNTING Holes for the 4 Console Mounting Screws ? Anyone happen to Know how I could do this WITHOUT taking the Headliner and Foam Backing Down from the Roof ? Any Advice would be welcome

I made a cardboard template from the overhead console and mocked it up by using the two rear screws (the two that hold the dome light in place). I cut X's in the material, not only so that I could make the necessary cuts but also so I could tuck the material in above the headliner. Go slow. Cut small and go larger as needed.

Here are a couple of links that may prove useful:

My main concern is locating the 4 Holes under the headliner . Are these Holes Already there from the Factory even on those Cars that did not come with a console ? I have ALL the Hardware to do the Job , and can wire it up easily . But I think and Hope this could be Done WITHOUT removing the Headliner and Foam backing All the way off the Roof . Your template Idea sounds like a Good one , but How DEEP will I have to go into the Headliner before I have enough room to get the Mounting Screws to CATCH in the Pre Drilled Holes ? Any more advice would be Welcome . And if you haven't Noticed , I have a HARDTOP Car , and a HARDTOP Roof Console .

Did the same to my 1988 Formula 350..had to cut the liner and if you have the PROPER bolts for the o/head consul; the threaded holes are there already.....did a lot of sweating until I found them...but do the cardboard template as suggested above..did it the same way...

Roof Console -3RD Gen .

Well , I finally Installed the Roof Console . What I noticed about this Procedure is this... You can Install it With the Headliner On , But if your Headliner is Old , Brittle and Sagging , you will wind up Ripping the Chit out of it ! LoL . I also had a problem with the Ground Wire positioned on the Front End of the Console . The Screw Hole for it was Too Large for the Factory Screws I was trying to use to Ground it to the Roof . So I ran the Gound wire to the dome Light and Grounded it to one of the screws that Holds the dome light in place . It worked Fine when I gave it Power . I noticed at Night , with a friend who smokes in the Back Seat , that the Map Light swivels Back to Eluminate the Rear Center Console Ashtray . And it is Dim enough to leave On while driving .

P.S. I have a MINT CAMARO Flashlight in Good Working Condition in this Console , but I have a Formula . Anybody wanna Trade me a PONTIAC Flashlight in GOOD WORKING Condition for my CAMARO Flashlight ? An EVEN Swap maybe ? Let me Know Gentlemen...

Yes I do . I am a smoker myself , but I smoke in the Car with the window open so the interior does not get messed up . The rear Passenger seat is another Story . I Insist people in the Back seat use the ashtray in the rear Center Console . But those ashes are a pain in the Butt sometimes . I just might change my mind about letting them do that .

Id like to help you out, but the firebird flashlight is much more difficult to find & probably worth alot more.

Console Flashlight

These Flashlights tend to Corrode at the Battery Contacts and the Plastic Breaks easily . The One I have is in Very Good Condition considering it is 18 years Old . The Pontiac Flashlight was in many Trans Ams in the 80's Years , and should be more Numerous . They are out there for around 50 Bucks if you can Locate a seller for one .
