Taking apart power mirrors
How can I get at the power mechanism behind the power mirrors? Mine is slightly loose and rattling bad with my subs. Does it pull out?

There are two styles of mirror adjustment motors. Early ones have a screw that is hidden behind the mirror glass that holds it to the motor. The bad news is that you'll have to break the glass to find and remove the screw. Once you've repaired/replaced the motor you re-install the screw and a new mirror glass. Later ones have a cross-shaped metal piece that snaps onto the plastic clips molded into the back side of the frame of that holds the mirror glass. No need to break the glass to repair this style. You just adjust the mirror to it's extreme down position to see the cross-shaped piece and pop it free from the mirror backing piece with a long skinny flat-blade screwdriver. I can't recall what year they switched to the new style.

Thanks for the info lon! Hopefully mine is not the have-to-break kind, since I just want to tighten it up! Ill have to check it out after work this morning. Its an '88 so it seems like it would be right on the border of the two.
That reminds me though I need to get a wonderbar, doh.

You'll probably find that the pot-metal frame that holds the motor to the mirror housing is broken. If so, you'll have to get another from a car at the pick-a-part yard. IAs I recall it will attach with 3 screws to your mirror housing.
