Info needed: How long are firebird's?

I'm going to pick up a firebird, no body kit, on the 21st. I need to know if it'll fit on the trailer. Can someone measure from the front bumper to the rear bumper? Unless someone has any info on it.

I put my Trans Am on a 17' dual axle tagalong trailer with no problems. With the nose real close to the front rail, the back bumper was at the very end of the trailer, nothing sticking out.

Problem is I have a 16' box and a gate on the back. I don't think the car is going to fit haha.

Hahah, yea, I thought about pulling one of the bumpers, but that's gonna be a PITA. I figure I could just rent a u-haul.

Firebirdjosh... your name looks REALLY familiar. I thought someone named firebird josh bought some stuff from my old firebird but you don't live in ca.

Maybe this varies a bit by year???

I factory ordered, and still have, a 1986 TA. I also still have the dealer brochure for the model year and it says overall length for the firebird in 86 is 188.1" and 191.6" for the TA. This seems to be accurate as I got 16' a few minutes ago when I measured my 86 in the garage.

I'm not sure...

I google searched and came up with this page:

http://www.melissa-martin.com/firebi...ications.shtml

that's just what I went by. Either way, I don't think I want to chance driving 300 miles to pick the car up to figure out it won't fit, I'll spend the $50 for a uhaul trailer.

Be sure to have a look at U-hauls special instructions for low-clearance vehicles.

It should be easy to pull the front/rear bumpers. I'd do that and save some rental money.

Oh yea, we loaded a 1962 Mercedes SL190 onto one of those, and right after we loaded an '02 Z28, 18x10.5 rear Z06's 17x9.5 fronts, and on sportlines. That was a task...

I'm going to pick the car up from a guy here on the board. He's been really patient with me getting my schedule and everything worked out. I just don't want to be sitting in front of his house tearing apart this car lol. It has no motor or trans so it shouldn't be a problem as far as ground clearance.

IANSANE, how long do you think it'd take to pull the front/rear bumpers, it's more than just bolts (clips etc right?) and wouldn't I have to remove the supports too?

The rear is simple. I think three or four 10mm nuts (maybe needing a deep socket?), the push in clips in the support bar and the license plate light. That'll cut a good 2" off. If you pull the bumper bar (four carriage bolts on either support I think) and then you'd gain an extra 6-8"

The front would be a tad more difficult on the upper fender-to-bumper bolts, but still all 10mm I think. The tool chest below the hood latch takes a bunch of 10mm as well. Unplug the signal lights, pull the plugs into the bumper bar and voila.

I recently picked up an 87TA that I bought off ebay back in early December. It was 400 miles away and wanting to do the pickup in a single day I decided not to take any chances with loading it on a uhaul taking too much time. So the boss lent me his full-size deisel pickup with 5th wheel and a gooseneck trailer. I called a towing service beforehand and they were there with a rollback ready to transfer the vehicle to my trailer when I got there. After getting back there was enough room on the trailer for me to do a fuel pump replacement and a little other work on the TA before driving it off onto our loading dock!

i don't know about u-hauls in your area but the one here hooks it up for you, for their reliability. Well when i went to pick up my friends 88 and my 84 camaro. when pushing the 84 up it came off the ball (it was the recommended size ball) and smashed the back door of my dad's tahoe that i borrowed... and then they refused to pay for it saying that they don't know if it was tampered with! So i was out $500 for a new door. So if at all possible stay away from U-Haul or double check their hook up at least!

Yea the one here put the last one on for us. And it was some STUPID @ss sort of hitch system. The girls there were punks too. But i don't know of any other way.

iansane, if I take of the rear bumper and rear bumper support you're saying I could probably get a total of 8-10 inches? That MIGHT be enough to risk it haha. If not I'll take the front off too... fuggit, it's only time right?
