Ill soon be turning my attention to my interior for full restoration. Im wanting to restore the inteiror to the way it was when it was stock.

Question, What company provides the best, cash not an issue interior restoration material for our cars? I understand replacing the seats and door pannels can be hard to do because not all tweed material can be a exact match to stock, for stock material is no longer offered. So what company provides seat covers and matching door pannels that are as close to stock as can be?

I can find the carpet and headliner stuff pretty easily but my big project will be the seats and door pannels. Any info will be appriciated! thanks

I would go with Hawks (see sponsor link) Most here would agree they are the best to deal with. They have seat material and door panels that look very original.

 

hey could you throw in a link for headliners? Some jackass friend of mine decided to burn mine with a lighter. Needless to say he walks a lot now.

NOT exactly factory, but, my facory colors were not very pleasing or exciting. It was a wonderful GREY, well when I got it it was mostly brown on the inside from all the dirt. to make a long story short, I went to a local guy here in town who owns a upholstery shop and I had the front seats, back seats, door panels, sunvisors, and head liner recovered. I also restored my interior totally head to toe. I'd be glad to help if you have any questions. I would go to your local shops first and actually get your hand on the material.

Going to a good local upholstery shop is a good idea if you do your homework. Make sure you look at some of their work, ask people how long it took and how much they paid. They can do door panels and seats, carpet, and they can whatever design or color or material (tweed, leather, vinyl, ect.) you prefer. You will def spend more money though.

 

A local trim shop here in Michigan is able to get some of the orginal grey tweed...they had 1 yard that they would sell me $100 and one of thier suppliers still has some..$500/yard...yeah right! I found some excellant seats on ebay. I can get the trim shops number if you like.

Thanks, ill check with my local upholstery shop to see what they can do, then ill send pics of my interior to Hawks and see what they can do as far as matching what I already have. Then ill compaire the two and pick between the two.

well i used ebay alot when searching for parts like seat belts

1aauto.com is a relatively good priced place where you can get headliner, visors, sail panels, and carpet (ACC carpet)

check ebay often because companies often offer cheaper prices on there then they would on their personal websites

i would recommend hawks for seat kits
get hampton vinyl (its not listed on their site but they can get it) cost extra $$$ tho but i think its worth it

ill try to get picks of my red to black interior up whenever i can get my camera to work

I still say get that material in your hand before you buy anything. And as for people paying $100 for a yard of original looking fabric, thats insane. My whole interior, (seats, all of them, doors, headliner, sunvsiors, new carpet) only cost me about $1300. Material, and labor. I installed than carpet myself. And the quality of the upholstery is awesome. PM me if you need help.

 

Classic Industries seems to have a pretty good selection too. Their website is not the greatest, but they have a really nice catalog you can order....900 pages of Camaro or Firebird goodies.

 

yeah you should definitely restore it yourself

you'll save tons of money and you will be much more proud of it

plus you get bragging rights that YOU did it , not some overpriced upholstery shop

to fully restore everything in the interior shouldnt cost you much more than 1000 give or take a few hundred bucks

Keep in mind that the stock fabric may be discontinued, therefor more expensive.
That's why I had mine done this way by a local upholstery shop.

those are nice looking seats Al Hasse.ive got a 91 gta,and was wondering what the actual material is on the seats.i belive its that pleather stuff but an upolsterer told me he thought it was actual leather.it has never been replaced so it come from factory that way,any ideas?also need to find a cheap headliner,my fiber underneath is dry at least by the t-tops and rest is tacked at the moment.

 

When shopping around, there are a few things to consider.

1. Everybody with seat covers, door panels, and headliners are selling the same stuff. There's only one company manufacturing those items. They're very good quality, and a much more affordable option than paying a local upholstery shop to make them.

2. Most people selling carpet are selling ACC stuff. If you do a search, you'll find a lot of people unhappy with ACC, mainly because it fades so badly. ACS carpet is about the same price, but much better quality.
