How to make an ASCD RA1 Hood functional?
How to make an ASCD RA1 Hood functional?
I recently purchased an ASCD Ram Air 1 Hood. I know it wasn't designed to be functional, but I was wondering if anybody were able to modify the hood to allow the air come in (kinda like a cold air induction) and possibly make it a semi-fuctional? If so, does anyone have pics of the modification?
Thanks
Thanks

I thought the Suncoast hood was a nicer hood than the ASCD RA I, and even more so since it was fucntional. Unfortunately by the time I was in the market for a hood the Suncoast one was discontinued.
Now it would be the RA II or nothing, because my opinion is why put on a ram air hood if you can't make t functional?

Exactly my feelings. I never said you couldn't make it functional, you just have to make stuff...

That is exactly what I'm looking for. Somebody who as cut the ASCD Ram Air 1 Hood. I'm hoping you can get more pics of that cut you made. I don't want to hurt anything else on my $500 hood (if you know what I mean).
Thanks so much!

You can see both sides of the 'rain deflector'. You can leave it, but it is in the way. It's only attached on the sides and is real loose in the middle. It's a rough piece of fiberglass, all you need to do is cut the sides and it will pull/break off of them.
I should have cut it before paint, but oh well. You can't really see in there much without stretching and a flash.
As far as the airbox, you can read what I did here: box thread
Since your going to a stock motor, you won't have to do nearly as much as I did. Just remember, the stock mounting tabs on the RA2 box puts it too far forward to do a whole lot.

This engine is going to have the Holley Stealth Ram. So yeah, I might need to make a box like you did.
Thanks sooooo much!!!!!
I'll get started on the hood within the next week or two. The picture shows enough.

Shroom, is there a significant amount of rain where you are? I've always kind liked that style air flow. RA1 w/ a box going straight into the engine but I've always been kind of apprehensive about te engine sucking water. I realize it's not driving yet but does that worry you at all?

A good bit of rain, but the car isn't going to be in it. If I ever get caught, there really shouldn't be too much rain getting in. It would have to go through the small holes, 'float' high enough to get over the lip, get past the K&N that's designed to be rinsed, and then be enough to not evaporate through the intake.
You could probably get a foam strip like I have sealing the back of the air-box, and just shove that into the hole. The engine would still get plenty of air from elsewhere, but no direct path for water.
