I finally did my headliner.

I relined my headliner over the weekend. Mine was about as bad as they get, the fabric no longer had any semblance of staying up, I've been stapling, pushpinning, safety pinning, trying that stupid spray that doesn't work, and so on for almost 4 years now.

I got creative and borrowed my wife's supplies for most of it, its this stuff that you can use with an iron to seam two pieces of fabric together. That combined with dots of "Pit Crew's choice", and a large (18) pack of the advance auto parts headliner retainers (Help! section) got 'er done.

I used the seam stuff to bond the edges, and around the holes for the visors and the dome light. I also used several patches in the middle of all that. Since its the original fiber material it wasn't holding all that great in the middle, so I used dots of the pit crew's choice on all the rest of the white squares. Stupid move, should've done it on the black squares, oh well I'm a guy LOL. Headliner retainers through the fabric and the fiber and I globbed glue on the other side that sticks out.

Those are fourth gen visors too, I didn't realize it at the yard, the "triangle" is different, but it does work with 2 screws instead of 3. Better than what I had (nothing...)

Its probably way better looking than the stock one you had! Right??

Now, with all do respect... have you tried the 3m adhesives. There is an autmotive strenght adhesive specially made for headliners.
It kept vynil on my door panels for over 2 years with no signs of letting up.
Vynil is way heavier than fabric.
I just don't think you tried hard enough in the first place.

Now you know how to do it. So, you should probably go and get some nice fabric from a fabric store (don't be shy, those old ladies that work there are very nice).

Than replace that g0dawfull checkered contraption.

Oh, You totally redeemed yourself...

That penguin beanie baby is off the hook.

Nothing screams a "mans man" more than a beanie passanger.

I am serious (not sarcastic at all).

Hell yeah!

I give you props for the effort man and for trying something different. But honestly, the only thing I think of when I see this is Beetlejuice.

I bet you would be much more happy with it if you went with a solid color closer to the rest of the interior.

Better than fur, but i'm afriad that the checkers don't match so well with your gray interior.

On the positive side, at least you always feel like a winner when you get in the car.

Clown all you want, I'm still proud I had the gumption to actually get it done. Yup, horribly matched - the grey interior and the black/white two-tone stuff, but one day I'll find a way to do the visors in black (did they ever make black visors?) and that'll match with the black seatcovers a bit. Yup, Nascar checkered flag LOL, I've got some furniture thats covered in that too, doesn't match either It IS fabric from the fabric store, its like tablecloth material though, not much weight to it, and the whole point is to hold up all the disintegrating fiber anyways.

Thanks for the fun all.

Its cool

Honestly i think it's really creative and way better than boring stock junk. It would look really awesome though if you redid your whole interior with the same scheme in mind.
I was gonna make my headliner with some cool japanese material. Like in the ones they use for kimonos but i havent figured out how ill get it to fit with everything else so im holding off on it.
Anyways, congrats on a cool interior.

Just gonna tell you really quickly, Don't do your headliner in that sort of material. That stuff is so delicate, one snag and it's all ruined. I have several evening gowns in that silk. I am always snagging the stuff. Plus, it doesn't stretch. Yes it is gorgeous material but it wouldn't do well in a vehicle. All you need is someone with sunglasses on thier head to bump up against the material while climbing in the back seat and he unravels the whole headliner. It comes apart so easily. If you want to try it, go buy a small patch and see what I mean.

Oh! You covered over the old headliner fabric? So you didn't take the headliner out, rip the old stuff off and recover it. I guess you're right then...it serves it's purpose the way it is.

I just recovered my headliner. IMO it was probably less trouble to take it out and replace the fabric than what you did. I used 2 yards of fabric and did the headliner, sail panels and the visors.
