might be easier to get the rest of the car and plate it than change that dash.

That's not exactly what he's saying, and I certainly wouldn't recommend doing what he means.

What about the wiring, is it all the same?

its not all the same,i went with aftermarket gauges. it can be done. people have put in 4th gen dashes, just do not expect a simple plug n play.

I have an 84 trans am, and i realize you have a camaro but don't worry...it'll still be somewhat relevant I first installed an 88 firebird dash including all the wiring from the 88 so that was just an easy plug and play. I just recently installed a 91 firebird dash shell, but kept the wiring from the 88. This was a bit tougher. They changed the lower mounting tabs a bit and some of the electrical items (fuse box and blinker/hazzard box were in slightly different locations. It was a pain in the butt, and i had to mess with it a bit but now it looks great and is mounted as solid as can be.

If you really want to take the project on, I suggest getting the entire dash assembly from a 91 or 92 camaro and get the wiring with it if you can. Then compare every mounting point possible before removing your old dash shell and installing the new one. The easiest way to do it is to remove the entire dash with heating vents and wiring harness from the car, swap shells, then reinstall it as a unit. I learned the hard way that trying to piece it together inside the car is a real pain in the butt.

I ended up doing exactly what you want to do the hard way....it all started when I got the not so bright idea to convert my 87 IROC 305 maf system to a 91 350 with speed density... to make everything work I installed the 91 350 w/Sd, the tpi harness and computer and the dash including ALL of the interior wiring harness etc. and guages into my 87 plus had to change the vss to electronic. It was a total gut job. Moral of the story..have the donar car sitting next to yours and all will go well.
