Great work! Must of taken alot of time and dedication to finish this work. I personally love the 3rd gen style it reminds me of the 80s and early 90s.. and when I play my L.A. Guns, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Dio, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and other 80s and early 90s rock.. It makes me feel that much better and far more fun to drive!!

I think all the curves on the 4th Gen. dash clashes with the straight body lines of the 3rd. Gen car, but it looks ok. But GM started doing that also on the 90-92 Camaros by rounding the corners of the dash panels.

a 97 cluster will work with a L98. the LS1 cluster uses a brain to power it. you need to find one for a 97. i know a company that has one. i can give you their number if you like.

i have a question. on your old dash that you took out, the metal frame that is rivet'd to the plastic dash, did you attach that to the new dash? or you didnt need it? it bolts to the steering column and runs along the dash and is reveted to it. here is a pic of what i mean, the rusty looking piece is the frame, im just wondering if i need it off to put on the new 4th gen dash or if it will fit. yellow is for the steering column bolts, the red circles are the rivets.

Asfar as I can remember no you don't need to take that part off the old dash. We stuck his old dash in my car and I don't remember doing anything like that. Adam :-)

was there one on the new dash? did the new dash line up underneath to bolt to the steering column? or just the bolt on each end of the bolts by the door, and the top?

what about the little frame piece directly in the middle going up and down, it bolted to this piece, and at the top where the top dash bolts, do you know what i mean?

You will have to wait for him to chime in on stuff for the new dash. I wasn't there when he did it. Adam :-)

yes there was one on the new dash. You must use the new dash frame not the third gen frame.

Um ... both. I THINK I have the vacuum down from this site and service manuals, but I want to be sure.

And yea, what about that hot/cold cable. Any pics of your setup back there?

Well from everything I've read the HVAC sounds to be the most difficult part to get to work right. I'm a little apprehensive about getting into that part of the swap. The instrument cluster wiring was easy. Time consuming, but easy. And on that ... I have 2 wires left on my 4th gen plug I dont know where they go.

One is A13 - Orange - "Power feed from courtesy fues 8" and the other is A14 - Red - "Generator output indicator control". (info from ALLDATA) I dont have anything in the 91 service manual that matches these descriptions. Any help?

A13 should hook to a battery hot source from the fuse box. A14 is the exciter wire on the voltage regulator, may be brown in your harness.

What do you mean by the exciter wire? I have a 91 Z, so its probably the same harness as your car. Where did it go in yours?

The exciter wire is the ignition hot wire that excites the alternator. The other end is in the alternator plug. I believe it is brown on our cluster harness. The LT1 uses a red wire. It should be the only ignition hot brown.. This link has a wiring chart that may help. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...cluster+pinout

This is the best I can find. I haven't had my cluster out in three years. I remember a post somewhere that covered this somewhere.

Ok, I think I have those two wires where they need to be. Ran the orange to a pink/blk on the 91 harness, and the red to a ground on the 91 harness.

Now some more.

1. Still no SES light when key is turned on.
2. "Check Gauges", "Low Oil", and "ABS Inop" lights stay on constantly now. Any ideas on those things? I'm thinking if I just run those wires to ground, they'll go off. Sound good?

Well, the 91 cluster doesnt even have these bulbs, or sensors that a 94 does (like the low oil level sensor).

Havent gotten to the HVAC yet

I got my hot/cold cable to work. I went junkyard scouting one day looking at the back of the HVAC controls on many different cars.

The best thing was from an early 90's Astro Van. The rotation of the mechanism is exactly the same as the 4th gen controls indicate. The throw of the cable is also the same. It doesn't mount hassle free on the 4th gen controls though. I had to dremel the mounts off and JB weld the new hot/cold selector to the controls. Works really well now.

With this setup I was able to leave my third gen cable untouched.
