TH700R4 handle removal

I need to replace the top of the console, but how does the handle come off the shift lever? I didn't see any screws or anything, holding it on. Already have the new console top plate, just wanna get it in the car.

There's a slot on the radio side of the shifter with a staple inside of it. Take a small flat head screwdiver pry it out and the shifter comes right off.

Damn thing won't budge, prying with a screwdriver, or pulling with needle nose pliers!

Gotta go get some WD-40!

Thanks for the advice guys!

Mine was really hard to take out. After getting the staple out it seemed like it was glued on. I was pulling so hard that when it finally did come off I smacked myself in the face :/

nah, if you get the staple out of there it shouldn't be too hard to get it off, just takes a little bit of muscle. I heard of someone using a pair of vise grips and clamping down on the **** and tapping it off.

I'm assuming you don't have the round ****, right?

I tried my vice grips, but tjhe tips are too big to fit in the little leather and foam slot, to reach the clip.

Due to very serious car wreck, I'm not doing so well, so...Hafta find some help.

Tried that too. Almost screwed up the leather on the ****.

Why couldn't it just be a screw on, like my T5s were? I liked my billiard ball ***** I made before.

there should be little holes on the ends of the c-clip, if you can get something small enough to fit in them you should beable to open the clip and then the ball will come right off.

I finally got it. I had some adhesive remover I use to remove vinyl material when I doing vinyl stuff for my customers, stuff like that. Put a few drops in there, and it slid out pretty easy.

New problem now.

I did this late last night, now the car battery is dead, and the car won't start. The dome light won't even come on.

And, there is a light for inside the center console. It has totally vanished! Wiring, everthing, but the lens! I dug around in the console, but can't find it any more. I pulled the bulb out when I took everything apart, so I know it wasn't just hanging under the car, and lighted, draining the battery. How does something just dissappear?

I'm not sure if it's different for GTA's than for Camaros, but on mine you can see that light right next to the shifter in this photo:

You've checked all the wires going to the center console?

That looks like the shift indicator light, which I found with no problem. All the Camaros I've had, didn't have a center concole light. Never seen a Camaro that did have one.
