Paint my car with single stage
Hey guys,
I have a painting question for you...I am getting ready to paint my car and i am using single stage cause i cant aford to do a 3 stage paint job......I want to do a 2 tone paint sceme....but i am worried then when i remove the tape i will have a ride were the two paints meet....Is there anyway to use single stage and not have the line?

im not sure if there is a way to do it without making a ridge between the two paints because i painted my s10 black with red racing strips and the ridge was so distinct it looked like the stripes where a vinly or something. but i dont see how it would be possible unless you taped out your deisgn and then sprayed it, untape the design and then tape over the paint you just sprayed and then spray your design. but i dunno, im sure somebody here will be of better help

It will not be possible for you to eliminate the line on a single-stage job. It is quite hard to do in base-clear. It can be done, it just requires extra work. It is also quite a bit more tedious to do a two-tone on a single stage job. The paint on your first color will have to be completely dry, to enable you to tape over it. Which will take a couple days. This process is easier in basecoat, due to the quicker dry/tape times, and the fact that you are using thinner coats.

there's really no easy way around the getting rid of the ridge between the two colors but you could just buy one of those rools of vinyl pin stripes and cover it

89importeater is steering you in the right direction.
Paint color #1 in the areas you want only.
Then remask for color #2. And when you think you have enuff paint.......
keep painting! You are going to wet sand off a good layer of the paint.
After wet sanding you won’t have a ridge.
(It’s when you someone decides to stripe a car after
it’s painted that they can’t avoid a ridge.)

they’d be going backwards.”
