Good idea or not

Just purchased an '89 Trans Am in very good condition for its age. I've read through some posts here and was concerned about floor pan rust. I checked underneath the car last night and inspected the floor pans. After 17 years there's a little oxidation and flaking, but no holes.

I wonder if it would be worth it to brush it down, apply rust preventer and then apply glass to the underside to waterproof that area. I don't know how well glass on the underside would hold up to driving.

Any thoughts?

I think you'll find that most of the floor pan rust problems are starting inside the car where moisture is getting trapped under the carpet. Coating the underside of the car probably isn't a bad idea but I would'nt use glass. I think some members have had good results using the POR15 product.

Thanks. The interior is in very good shape, carpet looks almost new, seats are in great consition. I'd rather not pull up the carpet. The car has been garage kept for most of its existence, so I'm hoping that rust is not an issue.

Just more concerned with protecting the underside and how that will uphold over time since the uderside will be exposed to the elements of the road as well as weather. I'll look at the POR-15.
