Camaro mouth width?

How wide is an IROC/RS/91-92 Z28 mouth? My car is in storage so I can't find out. I took that measurement before, but I completely forgot what it is. I need to know before I get the car back, though.
If someone could measure theirs for me it would be greatly appreciated.

For clarification, this is the dimension I mean...

Thanks

There's going to be a big ol' front mount intercooler sitting in there, I'm thinking about buying a new one so I don't have to deal with trying to weld some leaky tube to header plate connections or new endtank pipes on the semi-truck IC I have now. I want to know if the length I'm looking at will work out optimally.

aight that's good enough reason i'll be right back gonna go measure for ya.

ok i got 30 inches give or take 1/2 inch it's almost 1 am and it's kinda dark
you'll probably need to modify the impact bar some.

Awesome, thanks.

I will have to modify the steel bumper, in fact I'm mounting the IC to it. I'll also enlarge the holes directly behind the IC (the ones the stock foglights go through). Most of the plastic support in that area will have to go too, but I think it should still hold up solidly enough.

Your location, NAS???? car's in storage??????

Steven, are you an airdale??????

I was machinist mate on a carrier, but I've been out for a few years, so I guess we can get along here on thirdgen as fellow Camaro owners.

might want to get a measurement for the space between the bumper mounts (horns) to make sure you have the room. I can get that for you but it'll take a couple days as my project car is in a family members garage.

Good eyes, heh. Yeah, I'm in the aviation field in the Navy (I'm an AT actually), but for less than 4 more months. Afterwards I'll be able to get my TT setup installed, then I'm getting married, then going to college to use up the wonderful thing called "GI Bill".

That's alright, thanks anyway!

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you're talking about the bumper to subframe mounts, I don't have to worry about that as I'm installing it in front of the bumper, not behind it. The stock grill (and the part of the bumper cover it attaches to) and the foglights are coming out.
I had measured everything before, and though I don't remember the numbers, I know everything had plenty of room with the other IC which is the same height as a new one I may get, just not as thick (there's plenty more room for another inch there). However, I do remember that the other IC just barely fully filled up the mouth, with about half the endtanks showing. This one (24" long core, 31" long from endpipe to endpipe) will leave a gap on both sides, which I don't want. That means the truck IC was longer, DOH. I'm still thinking about whether or not to get that size (24x12x4) since it's so cheap and it's a bar & plate. A longer core will be custom and cost a lot more.

yeah i see what your doing now. i started designing mine to take place of the a/c condenser. But decided that I want to leave the nice cold air conditioning. I'm looking forward to seeing this so keep us updated. Mine's so far down the road you can't even hear it yet.

Just in case anyone is wondering what the heck we're talking about:

Steven is in Navy aviation, I worked in the engine room of an aircraft carrier. On a Navy aircraft carrier, the engineering people and the aviation people don't get along very well. I've been out for a few years now, so we can be friends here on ThirdGen.

By the way Steven; NUKES KICK @$$, especially the dirty machinist mate type. Did you ever deploy on the USS Enterprise?

Yeah, I'm keeping the nice A/C, and I don't want to block additional flow to the radiator. Essentially, the radiator will have it's own air feed (underneath- stock air dam) and the IC will have it's own (straight through the mouth). I don't like how a lot of IC setups block the radiator (parallel in front of it or angled down in front of it). The mouth air to the radiator will be slightly heated by the IC, but not enough to matter as it will have better flow through there than with the stock grill and fogs. Hopefully this will be the best of both worlds.
Mine is as far away as it takes for me to get out of here, so not terribly close either yet. I'll keep updates, look in the Power Adders forum (I have a TT project thread going that I haven't touched since I had to put the car in storage last summer).

tough87, I haven't been on the Enterprise, but have been on the Lincoln. It was an interesting experience, that boat, but I like land better, partly hence the non re-enlist. 5 years is enough for me. I did like being slowly rocked to sleep on the boat though. That was about the only good part of it.
I've never been all about bickering back and forth as to who's better in the Navy, but nothing is as bad as the petty fighting the Navy and Marines have going on. HELLO! WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE YOU IDIOTS! Heh, just ranting.

Here's the IC I am looking at, it's sold by several companies on ebay. I'm weary of it's quality, though. That's cheap for as large of a bar & plate it is.

i have no clue if it's good or not but it's got a hell of a price. I was looking at 2 smaller intercoolers similar to *****'s setup he had for his procharger. I need to get an engine to go in first though... I hate new technology I always want it but can't afford it!

Well that one should be on it's way to me soon, I bought it.

Excuse the MS Paint's but let me know what you all think.

I'm thinking "Eh, not really", but it could grow on me. It almost looks like one of those billet grills, except functional. This would be easy to do, and is what I currently plan on.

This would require a lot of work to look right (a custom molded lower GFX piece)

Or I could do something silly like this, and leave the middle piece. I think it looks decent, but see how much flow that would block?

well...it wouldn't be too difficult to cut the body peices...support pieces are going to be more of a problem really. If you want to cover it...I think and RS grill had the "louver" look

I like it a lot, that first picture looks pretty bad ***. It works well because it actually looks like a grille at the same time.

Intimidating as hell seeing a big *** intercooler in there

I love that car.

He made a tubular bumper and mounted the IC right in front of the radiator using a Spearco 2-182 core. That's all completely different from what I'm doing.

The company on Ebay said they made a mistake and were out of stock on that one, and refunded my money, but they should have more in 3-4 weeks. We'll see, unless I find a better deal before then.

I like the first picture best. The second one has a large opening that looks goofy. The third is certainly my least favorite unless you do something more with the center.
