Will Camaro doors fit?
Hey. I have an '86 Firebird that I'm currently working on. I live in Canada so the doors are pretty rusted (too rusted to repair). I was wondering if Camaro doors could possibly fit on my car, seeing as how I'm having a hard time finding Firebird doors around here that are worth buying. I heard that Camaro doors are a little bit smaller than Firebird doors.
If anyone could clear this up for me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have been told that all third gen doors will fit all third gen cars, camaro or firebird.
In terms of gfx mounting holes, they might be different, but the doors themselves are the same

Thanks slim. I was thinkin it should work out, but I didn't want to go out and buy doors that wouldn't fit. Also, my car doesn't have and gfx, it's just plain-jane.
I'm slowly but surely restoring it. I'll post pics of how it's comin along pretty soon.

Poject 86,
Just wondering, are the doors all rusted in the typical area....along the bottom of the door? If so you can save a bundle by getting the outer lower skin (8in) and the actual door bottom (which re-creates the flange that the skin wraps around). Then you will have a 100% rust free door. That is what I did when I restored mine. I got them from "Cross Canada". I can't remember the exact price but they are very cheap......I think they even mad a mistake and gave me the jobber rate or something as I recall it only being about 15$ or so per door.
Just a thought anyway.
Oh and I see you are from Ontario....where abouts??

Both my doors are rusted right-thru in the bottom corners. I figured it would be less of a hassle just to buy doors that are in pretty good shape. You being a canadian know how hard it is to find nice used doors

i cant remember what i saw it on but i saw a third gen with ground effects that had the bottom of the outer door skin indented under the ground effects...make sure you look for this...otherwise they are the same

I guess it depends on exactly how bad they are. One of mine was worse than the other (holes in the inside bottom corners) whereas the other just needed the lower skin and bottom piece. There is no question it is more work though, you are right there. I was on a tight budget though at the time. I will try to post some pics for ya.
By the way I am in KW.

Your doors turned out lookin damn good man. My doors are worse. I found a place in London that has local doors for $100 each, and southern doors for $150. The guy said he had loads of doors. I might go out there to check them out.
Also, do you know anyplace I could find 91-92 bumpers like these http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/inc/sdetail/16391 that dont cost a fortune?
I wanna throw the fron and rear 91-92 bumpers on my car.
I just realised I spelled Project wrong heh.

Here's a few pics of my doors. Not worth repairing if you ask me. The passenger side is also really wavy. The door was hit underneath the mirror, and the previous owner pulled the mirror up to pop the dent out. Bogus!

Check out the local board I PM'd you too as I remember a couple cars being parted out recently. Might be worth a shot.

I'm really not sure where they are at. I found the number in the Shoreline, and put the number somewhere around here. If you happen to go, and see any worthy doors around, I'd really appreciate it. When I went to the wreckers in london (I believe it was Coery's), there was a whole firebird there, same colour as mine right down to the red interior. Only thing wrong wtih that car was a little rust on the quarter panels, and I think the engine seized. I went with two of my friends in a pickup, and the bed was filled with Bonneville parts, so I couldn't pick up the doors
I gotta get back down to London to find doors, but it's a long drive from Windsor, and I'd be goin with my friend in his truck, which is a pig on gas. So we can't just go down there to look. I have to know that there are decent doors somewhere there first. No need to look for those newer bumpers though, I want to do this to the lights.
Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. And I'm still waitin to see other pics of how your doors came out eddie

That looks great man! My bird is exactly like yours, except for the spoiler. It even has the body mouldings taken off and its red. I hope mine turns out lookin that good.

The doors are the same up to 89 I believe the major problem is going to be the holes for the ground effects, they are not drilled in the same place. (Firebird doors are drilled above the body line and Camaros are below) I just put Firebird doors on my Camaro and they fit like a glove (91 RS). I do not know what the difference is between the years, but it always comes up 82-89 and 90-92.peace
sorry, for some reason it did not show the replys when I first looked at this

Thanks dwilliams. A friend of mine had an '89 firebird if I'm not mistaken, with '86 camaro doors on it. They didn't seem to fit right. When the doors were closed, the gaps around the doors seemed a little big. That's why I wasn't sure if camaro doors would work on a 'bird. Your car looks great eddie. Did you paint it yourself? Or did you take it somewhere?

Awesome. Did you send it to Maco or a local shop? I don't mean to be a pest. I'd just like to hear how people are getting their cars finished, seeing as how mine needs to be painted when I'm done the bodywork. My friend that's helping me with the car has an uncle that does AMAZING work on cars, paint AND bodywork. So my friend was thinkin about painting it. I'm tryin not to dump too much money into the car all at once, since it's my first, and I'm only 22, not makin a lot of money.
Oh no, not Maaco
Avoid them like the plague if you want anything lasting and really professional (fine for the winter beaters)......i have seen a lot of work from them and you get what you pay for....cars rusting again in under 6 months etc. I wanted to keep the cost way down too and that is why I did the work myself, but for paint I took it to a Rent-A-Bay (you rent the paint booth). At this one you can either do it yourself or have the professional do it for you for a labour fee. By going here though all you pay for is the paint and the labour to paint it (if you choose that route) is only 85.00 for acrylic enamel and 115 for base/clear....dirt cheap. The guy that works at this particular rent-a-bay is rumoured to be the best in the Niagara Region (they do a lot of work for dealers as well) and ended up doing an awesome job. There is less orange peel (hardly evident) than in a factory paint job on newer cars without any wet sanding at all. I sprayed the primer on myself, again to save cost, and since it is not crucial if you get drips etc since the whole thing has to be sanded again anyway. They use top notch paint too (Dupont) so you are getting quality paint and not that cheap synthetic enamel or whatever it is that is used at economy places.
If there are any rent-a-bay's in your area, definitely something to look into. Definitley worth it.

Haha, I heard that maco was crap from others too. There's a rent-a-bay here. I'm gonna call them up and ask them how much it would cost for a pro to do it, just to be safe.
