what all am i going to have to remove to get the front bumper cover, absorber pad, and impact bar off? i need to remove it all because its wrecked. do i have to remove both fenders and the hood?

 

no all u have 2 take off are the 2 flip headlights and all the front bumper bolts r right along the fender its very easy took me 20mins and i had 2 takes some of the ground effects off but u got a firebird so its easyer.then ull see the absorber and impact bar and theres just 4 bolts 2 get it off on boths sides the it slides right off...heres a pic of my friends 88' camaro its the same when u take the cover off....

 

I need to know how to do this on a camaro too. It will make putting my engine and trans back in a breeze. Is it pretty easy? thanks for the help.

 

ya its a lil harder cuz u got a light bar (where the headlights bolt to) and since u dont have flip lights to get your hand in easyer its all the same as the firebired but less hand room just get ready for some scatchs and bruses...also there are lil clips under the bumper with lil braces on the ull see the when u stick your head upder and look up and thenu got to get needle nose plyers some wont come out just rip them out u can buy them at any auto part store

 

Do you need to take the light bar out? or just leave it in place? Thanks for the help

 

its easyer if u take it out

 

pop the hood and look at the top corner where the nose meets the fender. theres a nut there that you have to get off.

so you either go up from the fender, and reach across with a 1/4 drive socket and long extention.. or find some other way to get to it.

ive personally never done this "light bar" thing.. ive always used the extention..

 

you dont even need to take the headlights out i took off all the bumper stuff just with the hood open

 

For taking the firebird nose off...

You'll need following sockets, 7mm, 10mm, 11mm deep socket and 13mm (i think)...

First thing, if you have the T/A front bumper ( Im not sure what yours is but this is what I had to do), take the front part of the lower fender graphics off (3x 7mm screws on the leading edge of each side)

Next, unbolt your turn signals (2x 10mm on each side)
Next unbolt the black metal bracing that the bumper cover attatches to the front hood latch area should be 4x 10mm

Next, up underneath the fender where you've unbolted the lower fender graphics, Undo the 10mm bolts that hold the nose to the fender. 1 or 2 on each side. Then using the 11mm socket, undo the quick release fasteners near the top of the fender, 2x 11mm on each side. It will take a bit to get at but it should come off relatively easy.

Remove the lower air deflector (this is the angled piece that goes from the edge of the bumper cover up to the rad area). 7mm screws on the leading edge and 2x 10mm bolts on either side. Next you will have to pull the body plugs from the impact bar to get the bumper cover off unless they are already torn off.

Once all that is out of the way you should be able to take the bumper cover off. Disconnect your foglights before you start pulling if you have them.

Impact bar is pretty simple to do, 4x 13mm or 14mm nuts, 2 on each side. May have your power steering cooler line bolted to the bottom of each side so you'll have to undo those nuts as well to get at the nut that holds the impact bar on. Pop those 4 nuts off and then the impact bar comes off.

The low speed impact waffle is easy as well, uses body plugs to hold it on. Pop those off and pull that off as well.

I've found that to be the easiest way to pull the bumper cover without pulling the fenders and bumper cover all as one unit.
