Couple of hundred from Macco to thousands. It all depends on what you want, how much you have and how long you want it to last.

if you're ambitious and have time it's not too expensive to do the job yourself, and you can do all the jambs too

i did body work about 20 years ago, the one friend i had with a body shop died 2 years ago. the other is an addict, that i really dont trust, but he does good work sober. i was curios about shop rates, i have the dark red mettalic on a 1989 iroc. i am sure that will be expensive. when i did it, the pricey paint was $150.

yeah the prices of paint are really insane, my friend and i are painting his car and we went to dupont to buy the paint from their 'Hot hues' selection and the "Dragonfire Red" was $500 a gallon and it wasn't even a metallic paint, the cheapest paints are blacks. sherwinn williams is where we turned to to get his paint instead, it was $200 for a gallon of GM "Bright Red" with 2 quarts of reducer and then a gallon of clear and a quart of activator, which was a really good deal and the paint is surprisingly quality stuff. i didn't know that sherwinn williams made automotive paint but they do.
shop rates on the other hand i'm not too quite sure about, but rates at collision shops are not cheap

Car paint is not cheap :-)

Sherman Williams, Du Pont or other name paints are a far safer way to go. they also have help lines if your trying to do it yourself.

If your a first timer, dont waste money on expensive pearl/mystic/whatever paints that are $500+ a qrt etc.

Stick with a stock type color and always go with a base/clearcoat setup.

Finding people to lay down paint is still easier than finding people who can make flawless metal look like glass bodywork :-)

U can save tons of money by stripping your car down yourself as well as doing as much paint stripping and bodywork as you can yourself.

Just remember to talk to your painter and see/do as much as he is comfortable with as he is the one doing the finished product.

later

It seems as if reds are one of the more expensive paints as well. I'm thinking of painting my GTA over the winter. Its bright red, and I'd like to keep it that color. I've been pricing out paint, and as others have stated, it isn't cheap. Since I want to take the car apart to do it, a color change wouldn't be a lot more work.
