LIKE THE TITLE SAYS, mY CAMARO GOT ITS @$$ KICKED BY MY WIFES CIVIC. i BOUGHT HER A 94 CIVIC DX HATCHBACK. iT IS SLIGHTLY MODIFIED AND WEIGHS 1750 LBS. SHE KILLED MY 305 LIKE A MOUSE THAT TRIED TO TAKE THE CHEESE. ANYWAYS IVE GOT MILD MODS HEADERS CAM 350 TBI INTAKE. KN DROP FILTER.

i KNOW I HAVE TO CHOICES. BIGGER MOTOR WHICH I CAN'T REALLY AFFORD.
OR
WEIGHT LOSS.

I'M LOOKING FOR IDEAS TO REDUCE WEIGHT MY CAR FEELS LIKE A DUMP TRUCK COMPARED TO HERS. iVE REMOVED THE ac SYSTEM, I TOOK OUT THE DEADNER ON THE CARPET, I TOOK THE CRUISE CONTROL OUT, TOOK WIPER TANK OUT, THE HEADERS ARE LIGHTER THAN STOCK MANIFOLDS. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO. I NEED IDEAS THAT WONT SACRIFICE HANDLING AND SAFETY. ALSO CHEAP IS GOOD. THATS WHY I LIKE TAKING THINGS OUT OF THE CAR.

I think what you need to do is borrow your wifes car all the way to Home Depot, and fill every little crevise that it out of sight with Quick-Crete, then ask her to race again after that little rat weighs 2450 lbs.

Wow, my sympathy goes out to ya, what were you thinking buying her a car that you should have known would smoke ya?! Your only solution is more cubic inches. You'll be driving a bare shell to make up that weight difference.Just tell her you'll do the dishes FOREVER if she promises not to tell anyone.

dump the tbi go with a 4bbl and remove all the wires (like 30lbs of wiring) is it a 350 or 305? If a 305 step up to a 350, or you could do one of the ltx or lsx swaps. then she'd be trying to play catch up. It goes back to 80's technology versus new technology. Weight only plays a small part.

you have a 1983 305TBI, accept the defeat and know that your car is at least RWD

problem started when....
it started when her beetle broke down she wanted cute and fast. so i went looking for good deals and fast. best deal turned out to be way faster than i thought. $2000 and i didnt have to fix a thing except 2 roached tires. the car was on ebay and the kid lived in the country where i grew up "a.k.a. FARMER" i figured it was a good reiable car that got great gas milage i drove it 2 miles and said ok we will take it. she didnt like it when i brought it home, it was her money i spent. no power steering, no ac no pw/pl but the interior was mint and paint was a 5-6 with no rust. so i drove it for 2 weeks while giving her lessons on how to shift. eeeck.... i thought we'd need a new clutch after the first time out. but the car made it threw about 50 stalls girls dont learn fast too many pedals, why do i have to use the cluth can't i just shift without it. anyways she knows how to drive it now and things its the best thing ever that her car is faster than mine. So from what i hear i should accept loss and get a bigger power house. keeping on task is there any thing else useless i can remove.

that tbi motor was rated at around 140hp(flywheel!!) or so put that in 3500lb car and you can see why from an acceleration standpoint its going to be a stone.

Wow, I used to have a TBI and civics were no problemo. It had headers 3 inch exhaust and no cat. I had the heads ported and that was pretty much it.
You might wanna check out and see if everything is running right. One way, just try to do a burn out. If you can't than there is your problem (tired motor). I would go to JY and pull any 350 that you can find (pref. LT or LS ones) however a third gen 350 TPI would suffice (even 305 TPI from later cars would be good).
That wouldnt cost much. I know that its a risk, but its worth it for 200 bucks. Than you get your wife and show here little civic what muscle is all about.

If you want to save some weight, get rid of the back seats, gets some lighter seats upfront. AC delete, get the replacement pulley for it.

Get aluminum direshaft, lower gears like 3.42's and you'd be suprised of how much more responsive your car would be.

83 z-28 has a fiberglass hood. its 45 lbs. drive shaft isnt a bad idea but its not a huge gain. the motor thing i'd say is whats got me. it doesnt build power, something is wrong. i cant do a brake stand or a burnout.

There in lies your problem.

Just get a junk motor,or if you have about 1200 get the crate 350.

Laters.

hmm... weightloss you say? Here's a couple of things that've worked out for me or some of my buds, in order of the largest impact to smallest.

1. Jenny Craig
2. Subway Diet
3. Bulimia
4. Atkins
5. Grapefruit

no burn-out or brakestand? What is your timing set at? A little bit of timing can really wake an engine up. What is the overall condition of tune on the engine? Check your wires and plugs really well...a bad wire/plug can leave you running like a dog.

???
my block has 60k original miles. ive done plugs, wires, and dist cap, ive adjusted the timing all over the place. but still runs like crap, as far as i can tell its getting too much fuel at low rpm. it smells nasty and doesnt pick up quick at all

If your not planning on changing the 305 out a used 142 super charger is cheap at any swap meet and a used 750 holley from a bone yard

this combo should help take care of your wifes car
lossing weight might be cheaped but it can hurt some things later if your planning on adding more power in the future

i dont think youll actually see a gain with the weightloss, unles you buy a fiberglass hood front fenders and a fiberglass notchback. and remove windows carpeting and seats. its almost cheaper to do poweradders
