I'm thinking about doing a black primer/satin finish on my car. Is there a paint for that besides primer?

How do you protect a finish like that? Clearly, you can't wax it, and my car sits outside.

There's a guy at work who has his car in black primer. He said it gets shiny in spots and wears out on the creases, so he has to reshoot it every fear or so. Is there a satin paint available that won't wear out like that?

 

you can just smear ATF on your black primer paint job

I think they make a "flat black" paint you can use. Look into the same brand of paint as your primer and whatnot, and see if they have a flat black. Think of school bus hoods, and things like that.

 

word of advise! it looks cool but it a real s.o.b. to maintain. i dont have ne good pix of mine, but it fades in spots and is just a biotch to spray evenly

 

My VRSCDX has what they call "denim black" paint with "vivid black" racing stripes. The denim black is basically a satin black color, but it's smooth and easy to maintain, and so far doesn't seem to get shiny or worn out on the high-traffic spots. You could probably look around for something by that name "denim". I've seen a couple done in "denim blue" and man they just looked awesome. It's also obvious that it's not primer, whereas a primer job looks exactly like just that. Primer.

I know they make "flatteners" for paint, also.

Damn.... Google doesn't mess around. I searched for "denim black" and this post came up and it's only a day old. lol

 

dupont has a new line of paint out that called hot hues and ther's a satin black that they call hot rod black, it's a single stage enamel so it is alot more durable than a primer or like a trim black, and it actually seals the metal unlike primers wich is very pores

For flat black, simply get military type flat black, in spray cans. They're used for touchups on Hummers etc

 

I think that might be cool for small parts, but I don't think you're going to be able to get any kind of an even finish out of a spray can
