paint job price changes?

A year ago I got a quote to do my car, I got 2 quotes in the 3000-3500 range.

This year, I go to 2 different places (due to location) and I get 2 quotes in the 4000-5000 range.

Whats happened in a year to necessitate those changes... ??

if the quote is for completely stripping the car and doing a base/top/clear job the cost is about right, at least from where i am. i recieved a simililar quote back when i had mine done. the shop actually took off all the body kit, both fenders, bumpers, hood and deck, door panels, ect so they could paint everything. i though they did a fansastic job with great attn to detail. but keep im mind body repair is extra.

for a paint job like mine in a shop with complete color change and removing door dings etc I'd imagine 6500 around chicago if not 8-10k for quality paint and materials. I spent just under $1500 on paint, etc. not counting labor or sandpaper, etc

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The car is dissassembled now, so its mainly just in the stripping, minor body work and paint. Color Change, Base + Clear. and Wetsand and buffing.

Just wanted to hear what others were paying to see if I was still in the ballpark or not.

I guess I dunno if im gonna be able to afford it this year or not now.

I did hear paint went up a lot when oil went up. They literally get you coming and going with the price of oil with gas, groceries and it looks like everyhting going up because of it.

I got my 1992 camaro repainted and had both rear quarter panels replaced for $2,500. The paint looks perfect and cant even see where he welded the panels.

I picked my car up yesterday for $2400. That included removing both doors, all side GFX, both spoilers, blisters, hood and fenders. There is always rust behind the GFX so that was fixed as were a few minor dings and dents. Add in labor, base top and 3 coats of clear and wetsanding for $2400. I think the price they quoted you was a bit pricey.

Kandied; What color are you painting your car? Your cars always come out awesome.

xpndbl; I thought Jay painted your car? I think the poster is going into a shop wich will cost him more money.

very nice!

The price I was quoted includes putting in a new floorpan on the pass side (from the front seat mount forward). It includes replacing the glass on the passenger side door, then the usual paint removal, slight rust under gfx, etc...

Its a color change, so painting jams, engine bay (wheel wells etc...)

It also included base+clear and wetsand and buff and installing the new weatherstripping. I guess overall its not terrible $$ wise. Just seems to be up from a year ago.
