Hood Problem
On my 92 RS everytime when I go to pull the hood cable, the hood doesnt pop up. I have to have a friend pull the cable while I pull up on the hood. Anyone here have the same problem?

My hood does that now, I pull the cable and then go pull up on the passenger side and it pops up then I can open it. It has to be that the latch isn't JUST right, I had to replace the latch support piece and it isn't in the perfect spot I guess. It isn't so far off that it makes the hood go to one side or the other when it's closed so I'm not too worried about it but I wouldn't mind fixing it if I can figure out which direction I need to move it.

greasing will help for a while, but whats happening is your mechanism has started to wear down. the hook that holds the latch on the hood down has worn out and has been allowed to go deeper and rub up against other metal parts. when it rubs up against it, friction keeps it stuck together. so when you pull the lever, the cable wont allow the hook to release because its stuck. usually its best to go to a junkyard and get it replaced...cuz it gets real annoying fast.

This is actually a failry common problem with the Camaro 3rd gen hood latches. Provided nothing is actually broken, what happens is, over time, the latch's mechanism fall's out of alignment with the hood's catch. Even when properly lubricated, this can cause more resistance than the lift spring has energy to raise the hood.

It's an easy fix. And if it doesn't work, it didn't cost you anything but avbout 30 seconds of your time. 99.9% of the time the latch mechanism (pictured crudly above on my car) needs to move back. The top part of the latch needs to lean back, ever so slightly towards the radiator. The amount is almost imperceptible but it can make a huge difference.
A friend fixed his just buy using his hands and pushing slightly. Or you may use an appropriate tool, but be sure to apply even pressure and do not squeeze or bend the mechanism. If it gets crimped then it really won't work!
I've seen one shop use a large wrench with the jaws protected by padding to prevent scratching the finish.
Good luck.

It's not as easy as just putting a new (or used) latch on. Sometimes we get lucky and it lines up and works. Other times it seems to stick and needs alignment. Sometimes as little as an 1/8" inch can make a big difference.
I know of some people who have replaced their latch a few times until they found one that worked, when they probably all worked (even the orginal), but just weren't lined up right.

Adjustment is the answer !!!!! I wish I could avoid this - but have to deal with this problem all the time. Every time I pull a hood from a car I need to re-adjust the damn hood latch so it works right !!!!
Spend a little time out there with a couple of sockets and try to adjust the alignment. Push on the hood easy and kind of "bounce" it while listening & feeling for any contact (friction) before the latch catches. It should bounce between the safety catch and the latch without rubbing anything until you push it hard enough to close.
