Fender Removal (Passenger)

I did a search, and i found some stuff, but it wasnt too in depth so im starting a new thread. Ive done this a few times on a camaro, but i never needed to do it safely because the cars were being stripped for parts. This time its a different reason, so i CANT break anything.

Anyways, i got all the bolts off my firebird, and the passenger fender is waiting to be pulled. i just dont know what to do with that antenna. There was some mention about a ring? Does someone have a picture of where it is and what it looks like? And ofcourse how it comes off. Also, once the antenna is free, how do i remove it from the fender, to be able to remove the fender completely? If my question isnt clear, just ask. Any help appreciated.

you have to pull the fender up and off and then on the inside/backside of the fender theres a bracket that holds cable to the car

the ring unthreads at the bottom of the antenna mast and holds it in place on the surface skin of the fender, the round base part, it unscrews counterclockwise should be slots in it

Really? Thats wierd. Well, the entire fender is loose, but i cant get it "off". Its caught right where the antenna is. Whats that all about? I know theres sort of a bracket that houses the antenna, is that whats holdng the fender?

The frame kinda slopes "up" towards the outside of the car, and the fender doesnt wanna go over nicely past the bump. Seems like something is pulling the fender down.

ok well i looked on the backside of one of a pass side fender i have laying up in the attic
and the cable brace doesnt bolt to the fender,
it bolts to the car tub

heres an antenna assembly off a third gen f body i have laying around here

notice that the round slotted retainer and the antenna mast both unscrew from the cable stud,

unscrew them from the stud and lift the fender up and off that threaded stud

Re: Fender Removal (Passenger)

look at your antenna, take the mast off with a wrech or something you will see the stud that the antenna goes on, below that will be a round part with 4 notches in it, use a flat head screwdriver and a light hammer and tap the ring counter clock wise, once its lose take it the rest of the way off by hand

Re: Fender Removal (Passenger)

i fixed the pics,

i must have moved location of them in my account, in which therefore changes the URL of the pics,
and then they wont show- with the old location/URL

all better now..

you just unscrew the mast off the base part of the assembly

and then unscrew the round shaped threaded nut thing right below the mast

this threaded nut is hex shaped for a wrench to fit it

the round base assembly nut thing is not and is round with a couple notches etc in it

i usually use a vise grip and a cloth to unthread these.

good luck
