This very well may have belonged in the autodetailing section, but its a question about fitment, price, appearance and modification.

First of all, has anyone seen this style of notchback before? (first picture). Would anyone have a pic of it on a formula like mine? (second picture). Problem is, i told this guy id buy it cuz his price is very decent. But he took too long to reply. I have since bought a wrap around spoiler which im a fan of, and a trans am GTA nostril hood.

He just e-mailed me to say that he will accept my offer for the notchback. This one is a little bulky, i like the sleeker ones that i think Hawks offers, where they dont necessarily follow the lines of the hatch.



In any case, should i buy this thing? The guy wants very little for it, he just needs the space. And has anyone fitted a wrap around spoiler on it before? Is it possible? If so, could you post some pix?

Dont put a notchback on unless its a factory one and put a cowl hood on your car.

Reasons for not putting the notchback???? Also, i would be looking for a cowl also, but i no longer have the tunnelram setup. Its just the stock q-jet and iron intake in there now, soon to be upgraded to a holley 750 and air-gap rpm, which i read somewhere, COULD be made to fit under the stock hood.

that notchback looks pretty bad man.... just keep the standard hatch. thats my opinion. i also would prefer the power buldge formula hood or just about any hood instead of a cowl hood. cowl hoods are so boring

whoops didnt notice your intake and filters sticking out of your hood, you might want a cowl then

I've never seen that particular notchback, however I'm kinda glad I haven't. Wait for a stock notchback, or maybe a Hawk's one.

As far as the wrap-around, as long as the notchback sides do not stick out farther than the stock glass would, you should be able to mount it, however I think it clips to the glass or something along those lines, not sure, however I think you could get it to work. Might not look good, but that's up to you.

I searched the forums with "notch back" there was one thread with all kinds of notchbacks in it, that resembled this one, but it didnt have those vent/louver things. I think you guys have successfully talked me out of getting it. The guy said he purchased it new for $1500 from a company in florida, in 1983. But then again, alot of guys say alot of things, so i dont know how accurate that is.

I offered him $100, he said he'll take it, he just needs it gone. The only reason i was pondering getting it, is it may have a weight advantage, but aparently not by much according to some threads. Also, i think ill be sticking with the rear hatch, wrap around spoiler, and trans am "ram air" style hood. I would LOVE to have a cowl, but thats WAY out of my price range. I dunno why you think a cowl looks bad, or red-neckish, i think it follows the lines of the thirdgen perfectly, as long as its not too high, and looks mean. As for the power bulge, i just really hate that hood. Its not a turbo, so it just looks stupid offset. But thats just my opinion. Its what i have onthe car now anyway.

This is my take on the notch back weight issue:

First off, the money to weight lost with it ratio is deffinatly not for those on a normal budget.

Secondly, you'll be loosing weight over the rear wheels, and that's a place you want the weight you've got.

Stick with the stock hatch, and get a nice fiberglass hood. That's your best bet.

Yea i realize these cars are very nose heavy, and rear light, but lost weight is lost weight. The weight distribution sucks as is, but its only noticeable on hard driving. I could prolly save a few bucks on gas, around town, and shave a hundreth of a second of an ET with a notchback.

But anyways, im not gettin it anymore. Gonna stay with the stock hatch, and wrap around spoiler.
