Fiberglass Front Spoiler

Has anyone tried to make a front spoiler out of fiberglass? Do you think it's logical to make one or do you think the roads will trash it to quickly?

I have not seen one, but if someone made a stock replacement front spoiler (good looking, good fit) I for one (and alot of others) would get one.
As far as it getting "trashed" it'll be fiberglass, so it would be easyer to repair (just my thoughts)

Re: Fiberglass Front Spoiler

Are you referring to the Air Dam (deflector, whatever you wanna call it)? If so, don't bother. It WILL be trashed very quickly.

Your best bet would be to make one out of a stiff, eurothane. Something that has some give to it and flexes, but retains its memory.

The rubber is fine, but when it gets old it doesn't work very well anymore.

Re: Fiberglass Front Spoiler

Don't believe it will work, not forgiving enough. It'll be in pieces in a week.

Re: Fiberglass Front Spoiler

Thats what I thought. Our cars, mine especially since its lowered, tend to hit driveways a lot so I don't think it will last long at all. I need a new one so I was thinking about buying one and then fabricating another in fiberglass to see how it turned out.

Re: Fiberglass Front Spoiler

I just got a new one from classic industries for 254 shipped. It is well worth it.

BTW fiberglass long enough for you to hit one bump or dip...

it would be time consuming enough to make it look right. then to make it durable would be rather expensive in material and design. obviously it can be done but oem's use the urethane/plastic material designed from 100,000 metal molds. they do this for a reason and we all see how that holds up. imagine a one off fiberglass design done out of a small garage with a plastic/silicone $100 mold..

Re: Fiberglass Front Spoiler

I'm not too sure that fiberglass is the best material, nut a plastic or flexible airdam with a built in scoop to "force feed" air to a cold air box might be a good idea for a product. Any ideas?
