I got mine off of ebay too, paid 4k for it.
Its been a money pit ever since. Wrecked it last year and then began the repair/modify process. Right now as far as Ive gotten it to get the body all straight, ss hood, new quarter skin, and now its all in grey primer and just started wet sanding on friday. Im glad that my school has a collision repair class, I get to work on it everyday for 2hrs.

 

my high school ride was a 1978 firebird, bought her in 1986. loved that car and for 2 years took me where i had to go without any problems. only got rid of her after a ex girlfriend had her vandalized.

Dad traded a 9mm for it 2 years ago when i was 14. Rusted, dirty, dead squirell, and running nasty.

I spent all of my spare time fixing her up and just sitting in it just waiting for 16 to come [couldnt drive yet]

two years later shes my baby and my world revolves around that damn car, dont belive me ask the ex's haha

I bought my first car before I got my license. Ended up buying an 89 rs coupe with a 305 auto from my cousin for $2000...this was in 1999... it was in alright shape when I got it.. my dad didnt have a car so he drove the camaro till I got my license, unfortanately when I got it back it had 200,000 extra miles and blowin head gasket and a there was a hanger holding up the melted spark plugs keeping them from grounding against anything. I was not happy...... being 16 couldnt afford to take it to a shop while I was only making 5.15 an hour..this is were I cut my teeth on working on cars.. never have taken an vehicle to a shop because of that car, needless to say I took a lemon and made lemonade.

My grad year was 86. I had an 83 camaro with a 2.8 V6. For sr year Dad, who worked for GM ordered an 86 TA for me. Got it from factory. Loved it but had to sell it a year later. Last year bought an 88 GTA with 20,000 miles. Love it!

 

I originally wanted a mustang and was close to buying one the summer before my senior year. But then in April 09 during a college shop class my senior year of HS, i sat in an 89 rs that didnt run and decided i wanted a third gen. Started looking that month and didnt find one till 3.5 months later in July.

So not exactly during high school, but soon after.

yep, for my sophmore and junior year I was a proud third gen owner. now I'm a senior, and although I don't have the camaro anymore, it still changed me and is very much a part of who I am today.

My H.S. car was a 1986 trans am it was dark forest green with red interior,350ci/700r4,T tops,CD player and NO A/C.I loved that car had GREAT times with it a 3rd gen always takes me back.

 

I started off with a 92' RS halfway through my senior year, bought it as a basket case. Put the motor back together and found out it had 2 bad rods.. Ended up getting a cherry motor for $200 bucks and ended up selling it because it didn't have enough power. Since then I've had 7 third gens. I keep finding ones I love more. Right now I'm rebuilding the motor in my 91 Z28 so I've got a nice summer cruiser.




Currently has eibach pro lowering springs, spohn pan hard bar, drilled and slotted rotors, 3.42 posi, aluminum drive shaft, new poly bushings, fresh paint and no rust! Very difficult to find in the Chicago area.

had a 88 firebird it was in bad shape total rust bucket, bad paint 150k+ miles for 650 bucks it was the best i could get. i loved it. gave it up when i heard the navy calling my name. had so much fun with it i got a 89 much better shape

 

Guilty. Junior year (89')I had an 88 IROC, maroon with red decals, 305, hardtop. I've been looking for it for a while and can't find it. Love to have it back.

 

Bought my first one when i was 15 yrs old. It was a 92 RS, I completely redid the car inside and out leaving it all original. Now 14yrs later, I still own a third gen, only now its a 87 iroc-z with very little of it still being original.

 

I got my first car as a junior in 01. it was a ford bronco II (biggest piece of crap ever) i drove that thing into the ground. i bought my camaro in 06 and its the first car I paid for, and i dont ever plan on getting rid of it. i have learned from my mistakes and have stuck with chevy ever since. i even bought an 86 silverado for those snowy winters.

 

Well, with less than 2 months left of school, i just bought my 86T/A with a bored .30 350 small block. Cant't drive it till tuesday though. But im glad i got her!

 

Actually I was a junior in high school when the third gens came out. Obviously as a junior I couldn't afford to buy a brand new car in 1982. That's ok though, the '66 Chevelle I had could blow the doors off a 1982 Camaro. Then again, with the 82 Camaro only having 145 HP, most cars back then could. Besides, I didn't really care for any Camaro between 1973 and 1985 when the IROC came out.

 

I'n my last year of highschool In april I bought my amaro and in june I graduated. ( over here we may drive a car when we are 18, but we can drink alcohol when we are 16)
anyway, even trough for years of college I still have my camaro. and now I can almost say he is a 99% confident sollid car.

 

i got my 92 firebird one year ago (my sophomore year) and i am a junior now and am restoring it...cant drive it even though it is drivable, but i dont have insurance on it but she is my baby (as everyone says) but i love her. cant wait to drive her again, so much fun

 

I had a 85 camaro Z28 in high school paid 300$ for the body put a 350 and a 4 speed in it took it on a test drive and never made it back to the house with it. Got hit on the front pass fender by a full size ford van that ran a red light. Had the car for about 2 weeks.

no didnt have the $$ to do so the front was trashed after the hit.

I had mine technically in Senior year but I wasn't going to my school anymore and was finishing my education at the time. I sorta wish I stayed to show her off and put the ***** groups in their place but it is too late now. I am turning 19 in may and have already had more than 1 Third gen which I am very proud off. First was the 1992 Camaro RS which I still have and working on. Then the Firebird that was intended for my dad as his DD but it had alot of problems so I took it and decided to swap a 350 in it but only to forget about it and now its sold.

 

It was my first car! Bought wrecked, fixed with Love, envied by all, and the ladies couldn't get enough of it! Seriously, I want this car again some day, and if anyone else has one like it, please send me some pics.

I had my first Thirdgen, a 92 RS about the last month of high school back in 2000. I remember thinking how cool it was to be driving what I thought at that time was a really powerful car... hehehehhehe lol. After about 2-3 months, I realized that it wasn't powerful and that I wanted T-Tops. I sold it and actually bought a 1993 Beretta GTZ which was considerably faster stock, and much faster when I put the new motor in. Do I regret selling the RS? No. Do I regret selling my GTZ, _HELL YES_. As for thirdgens, I realized that I will only buy TTop TPI ones from now and and have owned 4 more since. My current one; a 1991 Z28 will be the one I build the way I've always wanted...

 

Bought mine late into my Junior year.
Saw it parked at a Texaco gas station with a big $1000 slapped on the back. Was only able to haggle to the owner down to $900, but it was worth it in my opinion. It only had 2 dented fenders, 2 broken headlight frames, and faded/peeling clearcoat and paint, but it ran like a champ. The only 3rd gen Firebird I've seen in the entire city.
Since then, I have been slowly getting all the parts I need to make it whole again. Would have happened sooner but I decided to buy a 68 Mustang for $1500 my senior year. Too many deals I couldn't pass up, lol.

 

I got mine this year. Currently a jr in Highschool.
Its the best feeling in the world to have your 1st car and it be a thirdgen.
Got it from sum guy for 1600.
Wish it ran like it was supose to tho, but it soon will.

Bought the car this year and it's my senior year. 1988 Camaro irocZ 350tpi. I've wanted the car ever since i was 8 and am glad i was able to find one and say i drove a third gen during my HS career. Paid 3k for it.

I've seen to wickedly scary thirdgens though. Particularly one Camaro where I am. Bright orange with multiple blue lightning bolts running down it. The tires are 20's in the back and 16s in the front. Chromed out and everything. First time I saw it, I just about vomited.

Thirdgen bug all day lol. i had my 86 iroc way before i had my licence.
in my highschool every body had mustangs . and hated my car so much that i had a 12 gauge shotgun underneath the subs ready for some lucky fordsman to mess with the iroc. fun days .

 

I got my first third gen when i was 14. It was a 1989 iroc-z convertible and it needed a complete interior and eventually a motor and trans. The guy i bought it from put in a corvette motor with 36 lb injectors and 700r4. I don't know why they were way to big. it was fast but That motor ended up have cooling problems and overheated. killed the motor. its now being redone with a manuel trans (5 speed) the interior is done but i don't have any pics on me right now.

Picked up mine for $2300 2 months before I turned 16 during sophomore year. Poor gas mileage but it is the envy of almost every guy (and some girls) in the school (there are some diehard kids that make up all these reasons as to why it sucks by saying stuff like "Yeah I saw your car the ground effects are falling off and this looks broken etc." when the only thing wrong is the paint isnt in the best shape and there are a couple dents from the envious kids (door pop) and a couple hail dents).

 

I bought My car when I was 17 and in my senior year in 2004. Im 24 now and still lovin it

 

I had an '84 Z28 H.O in H.S. Lost it in hurricane floyd. I just bought another '84 H.O a few weeks ago and fixing it up to match my old one (I miss that one).

 

Seems like third gen cars is quite the trend for high schoolers. My parents bought my 1991 Firebird when I was 14 back in early 2000. It was wrecked and they gave $1,000 for it and it had 112k on it. After a lengthy restoration process I had it for the beginning of my junior year in 2002.

I still have the car to this day, it is in my sig. Only sad thing is that I wrecked it myself in 2007 and am in the middle of yet another restoration. Poor car, I love it though!

 

im still in high school. i got my camaro on my birthday technically 2 days before i got my dl but i still cant drive her yet. she will be up and running in a few weeks tho. i got some welding to accomplish on it and a shifter cable to get... dont ask me how it got ****ed up lmao
