I bought a 82 Firebird when I was 15 with the intentions of having something to work on.
Soon after that, came across a 85 Trans Am for dirt cheap in great condition, so the 82 became a parts car.
By the time I was 16 I had fixed up the 85. Rebuilt the engine, repainted, redid the interior. Put alot of time into it.
Last year we had lots of snow up in Canada and a shed collapsed decided to end that Trans Am's life. That was a sad time digging it back out.
Got a 86 Trans Am in the spring to replace it. Then someone ran a stop sign while I was in the intersection and totaled that one as well.
Now I have another 86 Trans Am.
So now I am 20, in 3rd year of university and have owned 4 different Firebirds/ Trans Ams. Best cars ever.
Sure did! I had a 1987 Iroc with the L98. Bought with 35K miles on it. Spun a main bearing coming home from the prom . After the engine was rebuilt, I took off the steel, yes, steel wheels (chrome with black centers) and installed aluminum wheel that were popular at the time, 1991-92. I loved the car, but sadly I had to sell it as it did not make a very good vehicle to take hunting. Now, nearly 25 years later I bought one nearly identical to my old one. Just needs a little TLC, some paint, wheels, tires, brakes, radio............
Third gens weren't out when I was in High School. In 1984 I bought my first car which was a 77 Formula, in 87 I ordered my first new car, which was my IROC.
1988 Iroc 5.0 TPI stock Gunmetal Gray. Just finished doing a complete stock restoration. Currently a junior in high school, definitely the coolest car in the parking lot!

Likely the coolest car in just about any parking lot these days! Share a pic with us.
I'm going into my sophomore year of highschool, and have owned the car for 4 years, my dad bought it in 2011 for me, I still only have my permit, but last year we took it to school all the time, and most people where in awe of it (except one girl who has a 1968 stang)
I posted in here yeeeaaars ago when I was still in highschool..
That Kevin would be like.. Man.. you upgraded.. I had an '89 V6 5 speed Firebird, hard-top... With louvers.. I was cool back then..
I still have mine I bought In grade 12 in 1999. I have renamed it project ZZZZZZ. I have build thread going in lt1 swap area. Finally after 16 years I am working on it!
This was my baby. I bought it when I was 16 - a few months before I got my license. 92 Heritage 25th Anniversary RS. It had 30,000 original miles when I got it (fall of '99). The looks I would get from teachers as I ripped through the parking lot with the Magna-Flow screaming...

Unfortunately, I don't. I had a crazy girlfriend in my early 20's that I let put us in a financial pickle, so I sold the car to fix things. I was young, dumb, and in love. And it still hurts me every day.
If I could ever somehow track it down, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat. I spent more time, effort, and money on it than anything else in life. It had always been my "dream car" since as long as I can remember.
Selling crossed my mind several times in the past 16 years especially after it was technically a total loss after getting stolen, but I stuck it out. Glad I did cause my kids love it, and now I am building it once and for all and will just keep it in the fam. I always had my dad telling me to never sell it, because I would regret it (lesson from personal experience), so that really helped me overcome the desire to put some money in my pocket.
I got to ride to High School in this car. Times were different but even in 1980/81 this car was special. Unfortunately I didn't have the foresight (and was actually away in college) to buy it when it did go up for sale & now it's in the stratosphere!
Fast foward to 2013 and my son had a choice of cars but decided on the 71 Judge to drive to High School during Senior week.
Very sweet ride PMD, yours was in much better condition than mine. I had a 1970 Barracuda, w/ 383 Gran Coupe. A friend of mine just sold his 1970 Dodge Challenger w/ 426 Hemi for 500K. His father-in-law to be exact. He bought the car brand new and it was a trailer queen its entire life. Even had the original factory seat belt wrappers still on it. My father had a 66 Goat, Convertible, 4 on the floor, well, console. Gave it to me temporarily, and then sold it. I never forgave him. That must be why he is still storing my Barracuda for me!
Here is a picture of my car from 1993, but I was long graduated from HS by then It hasn't changed much.

The 71 Hemi Cuda belonged to the older brother of one of my best friends at the time. I can still remember seeing it through the picture window of my parents living room as it pulled up to the front of my house to pick me up for Cub Scouts in 1971.
Jay (my buddy) got to drive it all through Senior year because his brother Andy wasn't doing too well (Vietnam vet who drank a bit). I only got to drive it once and that was after a party we had both gone to, I had only had a couple of beers that night but Jay had been drinking a lot. It got sold to a Dentist a couple of years later and it was in a house fire, got rebodied (from what I've read) and has been bouncing around the auction circuit ever since. Hemi Cuda, pistol grip 4spd, sure grip rear, road lights, shaker hood, black vinyl top, black interior, black body. Damn!
The lucerne blue convertible at the back of the driveway picture is actually 1 of 4 known surviving (16 built) 455HO 4spd LeMans Sport Convertibles. You couldn't order a GTO convertible in 1972 but you could build a LeMans optioned just like it and a few people did, 77,000 original miles with just one re-paint. Patrick's driven that one too, but decided the 71 Judge would be more fun, (easier to drive too being an automatic).

Very cool. I always loved The Judge! Just had to dig these up. Going thru my mid life crisis. The baby is my younger sister. Not sure what rebuild this was, used to lose my license for not having a license so I kept myself out of trouble by working on the motor.
I know what you mean. Some 20 somethings were over at my house visiting my daughter and they never once asked about my Formula. Almost zero interest I think. We won't have anyone to sell our cars to, we'll have to bury ourselves in them!
81 or 82 I guess, girl not around, wonder what she looks like now? She was a hottie back then, I didn't deserve her My wife isn't too shabby though I don't deserve her either! Cuda still around, but had the interior stolen. Sitting on my dads farm, collecting dust and rust. Haven't seen it in quite a while. It would probably best be served as a chop car, turn it into something that resembles a cuda.

Can it be considered a mid life crisis if you've been doing it for 35 years?
In the driveway picture the Judge, the GT-37 & the Lemans Convertible are all 455HO cars. Behind the GT-37 in the garage was my 70 RA IV/4spd Judge but that & the 71 Judge are gone now. I also have a 68 RA II/auto GTO and a 71 455 HO/RA 4spd GTO convertible that weren't home for that picture.
Didn't have one in High School, but now I do! I used to pass a 89 Trans Am each morning in the school parking lot back in 1992, and I left bits of drool on it. My son gets the Firebird I am restoring now when he turns 16 (it's a V6) and I will most likely get another one (Trans Am) at a later date. But I really am enjoying restoring this beauty.

Very, Very nice! I don't know how you let some of those pony's go!
First car in high school was a 92 Dodge Daytona 2.5 turbo, fun car but I spun a rod bearing and tried to fix it with the motor in. Drove it for a while until someone t-boned me and totalled it (got lucky).
Bought my 89 Iroc with the insurance money and drove it my Junior and Senior years. Still have it to this day.
