I figure that, including everything (tune up parts, 2.5 sets of tires, 2 alternators and batteries, 3 consoles and other parts), I have about $8K or so buried in my car so far. Could I have bought a decent used car (say, a 2000 GP like my father had before it was smashed to bits)? Yes, I could have. But, I bought my car as a project, knowing full well it was both related to the 81 Z28 I want so bad I can't stand myself and that it was already a work in progress. I'll see her done if it's the only thing I ever actually finish (I have so many partially completed projects, such as a cooling station for my laptop, that I've never finished, that it isn't funny). I REALLY miss my car...

 

Still in my last year of High School, and i have a 1983 z/28 with a semi built 305, fastest car out in the parking lot, its in the garage for now for some fresh paint and ready for a 400 small block swap so i can beat the new 2012 Camaro thats going to be out there at the end of the year.

It came out really well, espically when you factor in that it cost me $50 to paint it and it was painted in the drive way.

I've already posted this same story a few other places, but I love telling it so. I bought my first and only third gen on February 19th 2012. A white '91 RS 5.0. It has problems, but a running/driving/stopping car for $1000 delivered I think thats a pretty good deal. There is no rust or rot so...I'm happy. I'm 15 now and I'll be getting my permit in about 2 months. I need to get and exhaust leak cleared up and its leaking some fluids, coolant and maybe a little power steering, but I'm not to worried about it. I just don't know what to do after I get those things cleared up. I'm thinking either do bigger gears. I have the 2.73's now (obviously) I think I want to do the 3.23. A little more get-up but still able to comfortably drive on the highway, or a cat-back exhaust and make her sound a little better. I want to keep the manifolds and cats because I don't want to pull the engine to get headers in there and I need to keep the cats because I'll be moving to California for college and I'm hoping I'll still have her then and California is crazy with they're emissions laws so...That's my story

 

I had a 69 Camaro Vert in high school still have it but it needs some work and then I'll get her back on the road but my 86 Z28 is the main priority right now she needs a paint job and dash pad and the interior needs a little work but once thats done then the 1st gen gets her work done

 

Got my 87 camaro z28 in 07 when i was in 8th drove it thru my entire high school till 11th got it impounded thinking i was never gonna get her back bought another one 87 z28 t-toped fixed her up a bit then realized had some extra money laying around so after the 30 days in the impound were up took out my baby Lizeth out of the impound so now i have 2 Third gens for senior year ^.^

 

I actually got my first Trans Am before I even had a drivers license

 

^^ i got my '88 Chevy 1500 from my grandfather for my 18 birthday/ graduation. she was the first truck i ever drove. as well as the first vehicle period. she is one hell of a trooper. my great grandfather bought her new off the lot. burns oil a bit cuz the factory put the piston ring gaps right on top of each other on the right bank. (i know cuz i got dual exaust thanks to my grandfather inheriting the truck when he was younger.) shes got so many miles the odometer wont roll. stuck at just over 200,000. shes had a few problems since i got her (the current one being blown heads) but shes my truck. and im getting her fixed back up. my neighbor went to UTI and is helping me with this endeavor. i actually got on here to look up TBI to Carb swap and decided to read on to all the stories. well, heres mine.

 

Yep, during HS I had a total of three, one I didnt get to drive to school at the time, it was under the knife.

I had a 2nd gen back in high school,but I got a year old 87 in 88,2 years after school.

 

I wish i had mine in high school, i found my trans am less then a month after I graduated. I wanted to show it off so bad.

 

Yeah I got my subs to and a flowmaster setup on her lol and the ws6 rims, she is a beauty I wish it was a digital dash GTA tho! I really need to find one of those and have both mine now and a digi dash gta before I graduate lol

Had two different ones in HS. First was a 83 Z28 with the 5.0 HO w/crossfire, had virtually all options for the year, even rear disc and rear window wiper. Second was a 88 convertible, 305 TBI. Tried not to long ago to find my old 83, had a police officer friend try to locate in the system for me. No luck though. Had two 4th gens later but want to get back to a third gen pretty badly. Just gotta sell my 03 WRX first. Wife has made it very clear that she has no interest in having 5 vehicles.

 

third gens were 20 too late. I graduated HS in 1967. We were driving 55 56 57 Chevys
Pontiac GTOs. and 69 chevelle super sports, Dodge charger and Plymouth roadrunners and Barracuda.
Corvette stingrays, jaguar XKE, an occasional Shelby cobra

 

I had 2, my 1988 RS that I had for some of grade 9 then all of grade 10 then in grade 11 I got a 86 Trans Am WS6 with a 350 van motor now for grade 12 I have a 97 firebird.

 

I had a 1983 firebird 2.8 automatic, black with gold stripes on the sides.

 

started out with this one it was a freeebie that had been sitting for 12 years getting it out of the steel yard we ran it into a concrete barrier cause we couldnt unlock the steering X) haha dumb dad then we picked up the white one as a parts car for 500 bucks excuse the little brother swapped some parts got it running getting so close to start driving it and boom the engine went out

 

bummed with the bad luck searched again and found this 91 rs with a 350 and a 700r4 but the rear axel dif was clashing but we had a parts car did some swappage painted got it looking nicer and nicer and now still driving the car today

 

I never was intrested in 3rd gens back then for some reason, I was into lifted trucks more than anything

 

Nope, it was my sisters car way back then. Did sneak it out and beat the **** out of it frequently. donuts and burnouts everywhere! Prolly a good thing i didnt own it, I was wreckless as hell! Had the 145 speedo pegged frequently on back roads. Bought it from her in 05 after CG boot camp for 2500, modded it a bit and unfortunatly its been stored at grandpas place on jack stands for the last 5 years

 

Got my 1988 firebird a few months ago before school started . Then when the first day of school started i brought my car in to "show it off" And after i parked it for 15 minutes someone smack into the front end of it and left.
Dont you love high school

Bought my '89 sport coupe right after 8th grade graduation, got hit sold it and bought my '87 IROC in 11th grade. Only got to legally drive the sport coupe for 3 months but thanks to insurance and resale made $2800 off of it.

 

I graduated in june 2012. in grade 12 I had my 91 sonoma pick up with a 350 small block that my dad and i built. the whole school could hear it fire up in the parking lot and everyone turned to look as i cruised past the windows of the school. It was by far the fastest vehicle at my school,and most likely out of most of the schools in my town. unfortunately it had problems almost weekly and was hardly ever on the road. Just recently I bought an 87 trans am TPI 305 for 700 bucks as my DD and lets just say the girls LOVE the T tops lol

I went to highschool in the '80s, Irocs and GTA's (and GN'S) were only for the rich kids, I had a gold 78 trans am.

 

I had 2 during high school. My 86 Z and my 92 RS.

 

Got a 92 Formula in 10th grade n only drove it when there wasn't snow on the ground. Now I've graduated and still own the car. Its got some problems but i cant seem to find another car i like and i cant really stand the thought of selling it...

 

As a junior in highschool I worked and saved every penny planning on buying a barely legal/running thirdgen. My dad noticed my grades and hard work ethic increase and suprised me when he bought my first car from orlando FL and drove it home to Atlanta GA back in March.

Here it is when I got it.



I'm now a senior and this is how it looks today. After a good buff/wax with new wheels, springs and exhaust.

Its like your first love, you can't get over it.

 

In tenth grade, before I got my licence, i learned that my buddy had an '85 Iroc Z-28 that had sat around for 12 years because he never got around to fixing the timing (and a few minor issues). When he said 1000 and it's yours I jumped on it.

After a long three months of work the car was ready to drive. During the working, it was coined the name "Sexy": Short, simple, sweet. I took the road test in my mom's car, and hopped right into mine when I got home. I am now in twelfth grade and driving the same Black Iroc Z-28.

Oh yeah, and since its completion it has allowed me to laugh in the face of many 'fox body mustang tough guys' and rice burning wannabes. I've also gotten many many many 'nice car' comments from people of all ages. The car is my baby.

Oh yeah, two notable details: Manual with T-Tops

 

Got my first Thirdgen on my 16th birthday, BEST BIRTHDAY ever.

My brother who had purchased his 86' Iroc back in 05. Knew I have wanted one since then, so one day he happened to stumble upon this one a couple days before my birthday... Since I had been doing really good in school he decided to buy it for me....



It was a bit rough around the edges. Needed paint, could've used a new interior and lots of small things. But it still ran like a champ, It had the L03 with 160k+ miles on it.... ill never forget the sound of the exhaust (Magnaflow) I loved the car.

a couple weeks after having it a buddy of mine traded me his wheels for a couple misc parts.

I wish I could say that I had to sell it for whatever reason but unfortunately for this car It was totaled only two months after having it..... My brother was actually driving the car when this happened. He was on his way to work and another driver decided to take a red light, by the time he could see him it was to late.....

Well, fast forward to January and after saving up for about 5 months and after coming out of my depression from losing the first one i decide its time to purchase another thirdgen AKA hole to throw all your money into .

Picked this one up in August for 1k and have been working on it since......

WOW ! I feel like I'm ready for the box. Didn't get my first 3rd gen until I was 65. My high school car was a run of the mill 1955 Chevy Bel Air Convertible. Black with red interior. 265 powerglide. Had 3 point feista Olds hubcaps. Sold it for $125 when the trans shot craps. Man, have I got a head ache, these memories are killing me...

 

When I was in high school, the Z/28 option was nothing more than a decal package for the second gen. Then the Z/28 was no more. Couldn't even brake torque the tires, truly a sad car. But then I can remember seeing a corvette also unable to spin the tires a year or two later. Man we all thought performance was gone forever.

 

I got mine in april 2012, i was 15 and saved all my money to buy it. My dad suprised me with it on my birthday. Got it before i had my lisence as well.

 

I'm in 10th grade right now and have a 1988 Formula and 1987 Trans am GTA. My dad is claiming the iroc-z so I guess its not mine!

 

Ooo Ooo I did! I had a beautiful red 91 RS with the slow 305 TBI, t-tops, and all red interior. It had 14" mags, Idk what the name was but they had rivets on the outside with holes in the center. They where wrapped in white lettering tires. I always got compliments on that car until someone pulled out in front of me and I lost control and went into the ditch. :-( This was my junior year. Then traded it for an 88 turbo supra with a blown head gasket. This was back in 05-06 and it was a gift from my grandpa.
