Yah. I pay my insurance. I'm just saying. A teenage Boy hopped up on adrenaline and testosterone with a V8 rear wheel drive muscle car is an insurance company’s worst nightmare. Those guys and teenage girls texing, doing their makeup, or becoming otherwise emotionally compramized are the most likey to crash, that’s why the rates are so high.

I'm currently in 11th grade driving my 85 Camaro to and from school with a carb'd 350 under the hood. She's a work in progress, but she's my baby! Oh, and I live in Michigan and the insurance rates are horrid. Almost $900 every 6 months with no wrecks or tickets.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
High school I had a '82 z, then traded it for an 81. My current 3rd gen is my 48th vehicle since I was 13 (13 years ago haha) It's kinda funny, after ALL of the cars i've had (not gonna list em) I go back to an almost identical version of my first camaro haha. I wish I would have just kept my first one and built it. But I've had alot of nice cars and have had alot of fun with them.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
Here's a pic of my first car, 1987 LT with the LG4, Auto and T-tops.... Really miss that car too. Sold it three years ago because I had a 2001 SS and a 79 Z-28, really stupid move on my part though now I have a sweet 89 IROC-Z.
Bought it in mint condition with 88,000 original miles, when I sold it the car had 211,000 and still ran like a top.
Bought this one back in 99 btw and drove it daily until 2009 when the ex wife talked me into selling it.
Big mistake!

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
I had a 68 Camaro in high school. Third gens were not out until after I graduated. I have "expanded" enough so that 1st gens are no longer on my radar for a daily or even a semi daily driver. I think it was around 1989 when I got my first 3rd gen.
On racing, that is not something you even want to appear to be doing in Texas. If another sports car pulls next to me, I will let them pull ahead just to avoid appearances. I'd rather pull off faster next to a cop as he knows I'm not racing him.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
My son is a sophomore and he has an 89 Iroc that has been more of Dad/Son project, which I’m still enjoying with him. Since elementary, my Son has experienced good ole American muscle watching and helping me with my 72. We have gone to many shows and racing events together.
I too graduated just before the 3rd Gen era. While a sophomore in High School, I terrorized the streets in a 69 SCJ 428 mustang and got away with a lot of things that would be un-thinkable now.
I’m lucky my Son has developed a passion for one of my favorite muscle cars, which is not as popular at his High School, as I remember back then.

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
I just got my 89 irocz last tuesday, im turning 16 in feb, shes parked in the driveway and having the greatest time of her life. She had been parked for almost 12 yearss and has just a little surface rust paint is shot to all holy hell, she needs 2 fuel injectors but the interior is absouloutley flawless. shes got 116,*** but the factory rebuilt the motor at 50,000. so needless to say im estatic about the time i have coming up. Shes a project nonetheless but thats what i wanted and wouldnt trade her for the world.

Jakeyz and Gsoleski, welcome to the club! It sure is great to be in high school with a thirdgen- I love these things.
Plus, I doubt any guy with a Honda or Toyota will look back upon their first car as fondly as us third genners will. Just don't get rid it! I've heard too many stories of regret from guys that have gotten rid of their first car

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
Ive spent many a sleepless night lying in bed dreaming about what im going to do to this car. I think my favorite aspect is the amount of jealousy my brother has for it. he has a POS 87 bonneville. he wanted this car when he was to start driving but couldnt afford it...i guess timing is on my side. I just need to fix everything that has to do with practicality then onto the custom mods. im going to tackle the surface rust this weekend. hopefully all will turn out well. She needs paint like theres no tommoro. Speed safe everyone.

Looks great! That's a massive difference. Wouldn't believe it's the same car if I didn't already know. You're info says you're in Colinsville IL, what's that close to? Anywhere near Chicago? Probably not. Haha

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
My grandpa gave me a 83 Berlinetta back when I was a freshman in high school. It had been sitting since 92 so I had to buy a donor car and swap in the new gas tank and exhaust. I also had the carb rebuilt and after that and she ran great.
A few years down the road my dad found a 1987 Firebird formula 350. I loved the car ever since I first saw it. My dad made a deal with me to trade the 83 plus some cash and the Firebird could be mine. Not more then 3 weeks later it started to throw a rod. It only had 87,000 miles on it. I was too poor to fix it up, so I was forced to sell.
I was carless for the next few years. Now Im the proud owner of a 86 Iroc-Z. I love this car. People are always giving me complements on it. It does needs some work here and there, but shes my baby. I plan on keeping this car for forever.

is it bad i turn 19 in 16 days and i've had 12 vehicles lol but i have found my dream car out of all of them my newly aquired 88 trans am w/t-tops and a 305 tpi i just love you mash the gas and the butt end just slides out from under you lol
it's all original and to my knowledge everything works on the car except the cruise control (after the 3 hours spent fixing headlight electric prob and trunk shutting problem )
i absolutly love it it may not be as fast as my old 91 mustang gt with a 5.0 with bells and whistles but a lot funner and t-tops is way cooler than convertible

Re: Did u have a Thirdgen in highschool?
My dad bought my Iroc when I was about 10 and when I turned 16 it became mine. It now has a 331 and a five speed. It is an 85 Iroc, now that I'm in college it doesn't get out to often. Hopefully if everything goes alright I plan on keeping it for as long as I can, but I'd say its a far bet to say it won't stay the same over those years. haha

Dang ! Do feel the oldness creeping in. Bought my first and only 3rd Gen at age 64. First car was a '51 Chevy I bought at 14. Graduated in '62 and parted school with a '55 Chev convert. Sure wish I had that vert now....
