Will and aerowing fit a 91-92 hatch?

I have an 89 GTA but for some reason the first owner had the hatch replaced with a 91-92 style hatch and spoiler. Will an aerowing install on that style hatch or will I have to do some custom work? I have an opportunity to get a used aerowing for like $60, paints cracking but body is intact.

It attaches to the hatch via metal hooks tach welded to the black surround trim

If you can figure out a way for those then go for it

Easiest way is to just swap the whole hatch assembly

The aerowing one attaches via metal hooks? I don't have the money to swap out a new hatch. Is there any mounting hardware for the aerowing? When I remove the spoiler on there will there be gaps where it mounts?

The hatch feet and 3rd brake light, use bolts. 4 through the hatch to the wing, 2 through to the 3rd brake light, then 2 more from the 3rd brake light, to the wing. The 2 forward tips, use the metal clips. The 91/92 style, should use the same clips on the wing tips.

Damn that means I won't be able to mount the center piece without drilling custom holes. That and i'll have two third brake lights. Anyone know if this is possible?

Get the correct 85-90 hatch. The clips for the 85-90 and 91-2 ARE different and will not interchange.A 85-90 hatch should be cheap and easy to find.

Too bad you aren't closer, I'd do a straight swap.

Hey Tenom, why are you wanting to change that spoiler anyways?IMO the on the car looks very good.I know its not an original factory correct piece, but the 91-92 style is far superior to the 85-90 style IMO. The older ones are very heavy, the sun is not friendly with them because they are mostly rubber so they crack and swell. The 91-92 ones are very light and made of fiberglass(I believe) they don't crack and swell, and I have read some posts on here about the aerowing being heavy for more downforce.IMO that really is a bunch of BS

Actually, the shape of the 85-90 provides a good amount of down force, good enough for a 307mph stock bodied land speed record set by Kugel/LaFevers with a 91 Formula. they used the 85-90 wing since it works, while the 91/92 is pretty much just for asthetics.

OK Zepher, you may be right on that,I don't know. But I think some of us here are more concerned about our cars looking good, and not setting a land speed record of 308mph or more.sorry if I am mistaken on that, but I just don't think the 85-90 gta's and t/a's were originally intended to go 307mph+ .Don't really care if any do either.I just think that Temons car looks good the way it is,and that the rubber aerowings are junk.

I agree with that. I personally like the 91-92 wing and put one on my 86 back in 2000,

I just don't like the 91-92 spoiler. It's just to small and doesn't complete the rear.
